The vastly popular YouTube channel Hoonigan recently outed Corvette Nation’s secret by dubbing the C6 Z06 the best bang for the buck in the performance car world. The Hoonigans didn’t just shell out a hollow award and move on to the next thing, either; they backed up their claims by purchasing their own Z06 with an intent to make it just as much of a supercar assassin today as it was when it was new. That meant installing a mountain of cosmetic and performance parts headlined by an Edelbrock blower, and as anyone even vaguely familiar with Callaway knows; 427 + Supercharger = monster power!

To see how their work stacks up to the modern batch of supercars, they invited a British welterweight with a bone stock twin-turbo AMG heart to represent the “That” side of their This vs. That series’ Z-starring new episode. After giving a rundown of the competitors, some strategically placed promotional pieces (you can win the Z06 + $20,000!), and placing of bets – everyone was on the ‘Vette to win – the action finally gets underway at the 8:45 mark with a wicked boosted LS7 burnout. At 9:22 the 1,000-foot first round takes place, and while we don’t usually like to play spoiler here, it seems pretty obvious that the Z will get the checkered flag in this one after it puts down the power surprisingly well off the line! What is shocking is how the ‘Vette’s siren song completely drowns out the famously rambunctious V8 Vantage for the whole race; the Z06 might as well have been facing off with a mute electric car, it was like Seinfeld’s “low talker” attempting a duet with Adele!

Jump ahead (the best way to watch these!) to 10:57 for round two, and the crew tries to give the Aston a fighting chance against their yellow Iron Mike by spotting it two car lengths and a hit. We’re going to make you watch to see how that one turned out. The third and final round is pretty similar to round two with the Spectre-inspired Marty setting off exactly two cars in the lead. Again, you’ll need to click if you want to know how it goes. Just as the hosts are about to call it a wrap, the Aston Martin driver becomes the hero of the day when he suggests a 40-MPH rolling bonus round! Of course, this setup favors the more powerful car, even with the Z furiously struggling to keep grip and going past the guys bravely(?) sanding between the cars at the 40-launch point sideways, it takes another easy W.

We think the Hoonigan C6Z has proven itself and is ready for a stiffer challenge. Bring on the C8Z?

  1. an Insult to say that the C6 Z06 is a “muscle car”. Jim Mero prooved other wise at many Tracks including Green Hell. Even the Stig shamed other super cars across the pond. I personally pegged 1.25 Gs on Street corner(s) with just the original rubber.
