BREAKING: GM to Halt 2023 Corvette Z06 Orders Through the End of 2022

Earlier today, we shared the news that Chevrolet had sent their dealers an update about the Z06, but we just found out that it also included a webcast from Chevrolet Global President Scott Bell in which he says that GM will be halting the submission of any new Z06 orders through the end of this calendar year.

The move, we are told, allows GM to better handle the ramp-up in the production of the all-new Z06 and not get into what we saw with the 2020 Corvette Stingray, in which GM had thousands of cars in the system that couldn’t be produced.

We had estimated that somewhere around 450-500 orders were placed in the first allocation that dropped last month. As Chevy says in this memo, they claim a slower ramp-up to get the car right:

Chevy Backtracks on 12-Month Ownership Rule for Z06 Buyers, Changed to Six Months

Here is an update on the situation from our friend Rick Conti who shared a quick video of what Scott Bell had said in the webcast:

Talking about supply chain issues, we’re going to have a gradual production ramp-up for Z06 as there is way too much on the line here. We’re going to stop taking orders for the balance of the year. We’re not building as many Z06s as we’d like to right now, it’s really that simple. We plan to sell more of this generation Corvette than any other generation in our history, and that includes a high percentage of Z06s.

  1. 2 weeks ago my order was.accepted does that mean I made the final ones being made? I got to head of list I did not order magnetic shocks.

  2. More GM BS. Is this really a Hundred year old well established business or not?? Always something. Build as many as needed good god people. Problems with suppliers?? GET NEW ONE’S for christ sake!! Is this what happens when you put a woman in charge??

  3. “We plan to sell more of this generation Corvette than any other generation in our history”. 543k c3’s. At 25k/yr, that’s over 20 years of c8 production. I thought GM will be totally electric by 2035. Or, who will want to buy a 20 year old car model? All BS. Or maybe you should order your 2041 C9 now.

  4. This is bullshit i was #12 on my dealers list was told I would get a car by the end of this year good thing I didn’t trade my ‘17 Z06 into the dealer. I’ve had my deposit down since March of 2020. I could see this now that their stopping production so they can raise the price again claiming the cars are 2023 model year, meanwhile YouTubers and celebrities get their cars yet dealers are marking up to $100k over msrp we the people bailed GM out and this is how they repay us funny how I don’t see Dodge or Porsche doing this.

  5. It’s terribly disappointing, but just to clarify, there is no stoppage of production, just a pause on accepting new orders into the system. The first Z06s are expected to start production the week of September 12, and they will be making them at reduced quantities through the end of the year. That’s not gonna make those customers on the cusp of receiving their allocations any easier, but those are the facts.

  6. This is probably the worst executive management we have ever seen at GM/Chevrolet. Somebody needs to be fired !!! Starting at the top. One of the first rules in business is you don’t invest a lot of time and money into designing and engineering a product if you can’t deliver it to the customer. They have made bad decision after bad decision. I know these are unusual times but this “roller-coaster” nightmare you are putting your customers through is ridiculous. And by-the-way, stop cramming your EV electric vehicles down our throats, some people still like the ROAR of a gasoline powered engine.

  7. It’s an American made car that depends on China. Like everything else ok this country. That is however because if those parts were made in the US they would be inferior and quadruple the price thanks to the good old-fashioned American Union…

Certainly there has to be a reasonable balance between Chinese communist slave labor and American inferior overpriced union labor.

I happen to be a member of a union and I can testify firsthand to the inferiority and overpriced reality and most of it goes straight into the pocket of the union leaders. I have numerous coworkers that are incompetent but can’t be fired because. “The Union”.

  8. Thanks, GM. This is how we’re paid back for billions in bail out money shoved into your pockets that you failed to pay back?!? I hope capitalism takes over and GM goes under. You people are the absolute worst car manufacturer in the United States.

  9. GOOD AFTERNOON –
AS I SAID YESTERDAY – CHEVROLET HAS LOST THEIR ABILITY TO DESIGN, BUILD AND SELL MOST OF THEIR CURRENT SELECTION OF CARS AND TRUCKS, ESPECIALLY THE CORVETTES, AS WELL AS KILLING THE CAMARO.

WE ALL STILL LOVE CORVETTES – BUT ABSOLUTELY HATE CHEVROLET, NONE OF THE CORVETTE COMPETING SPORTS CARS MANUFACTURERS DO THIS CRAZY BULLS**T TO THEIR CUSTOMERS.

SOMETHING HAS GOT TO CHANGE REAL QUICK IN DETROIT. WHAT ARE THE GENERAL MOTORS SHARE HOLDERS SAYING ABOUT THIS CURRENT CORVETTE SCENARIO?

HERE IS WHAT I SAID YESTERDAY ABOUT THE NEW 6 MONTH OWNERSHIP RULE FO Z06 BUYERS,WHICH NOW HOLDS TRUE TO THE DELAY OF Z06 PRODUCTION:

CHEVROLET, GENERAL MOTORS, MS. MARY BARRA, MR. MARK REUSS AND MR. HARLAN CHARLES HAVE CREATED THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY’S LARGEST EXAMPLE OF A TRUE CLUSTER F**K WITH THIS EIGHT GENERATION OF CORVETTE STINGRAYS AND NOW THE Z06!

THERE IS A TOTALLY AVOIDABLE SITUATION WITH THIS CORVETTE WHEN A COMPETENT CHEVROLET MANAGER SITS DOWN AND DESIGNS A PLAN TO BUILD, SELL, AND SERVICE CORVETTES EFFICIENTLY AND COST EFFECTIVELY THAT CAN SATISFY EVERY CORVETTE OWNER DESIRES AND NEEDS WITHOUT ANY MORE BULLS**T FROM MS. BARRA AND REUSS AND CHARLES..

HOW MUCH CRAP IS THE CORVETTE COMMUNITY GOING TO PUT UP WITH JUST TO BUY A NEW CORVETTE?

MAYBE CADILLAC CAN TAKE OVER ALL NEW CORVETTES AND DO A BETTER JOB.
    THANKS FOR LISTENING.

  10. The corvette manufacturing model of outsourcing most components blew up in their face… This will hurt the brand’s sales big time and lose market share for years to come…

  11. I was told by a Corvette Pgm Manager 2 weeks ago, in Bowling green, that C A R B O N is a problem.
    #1problem.
Raw material, tier1 supplier issues, etc….. and I believe it’s true. We have been hearing those rumors for past year. FWIW…..
I am somewhat glad that I am not waiting on a Z06….. don’t think I have That Much patience!!

  12. I have been on the list for a ZO6 since Feb. of 2022. Production was delayed in May and was supposed to start up August 28. I called my dealer twice and he stated they have not heard anything. So what gives!!! Then GM said the price would start between $87.000.00 and $90.000.00. Now it jumped up to $106.000.00 for the coupe and $112.995.00 for the convertible. That’s one hell of a jump. I would finally like to hear some truth of what the hell is going on!!! HELLO GM!!!
