[POLL] Has the Release of Pricing for the 2023 Corvette Z06 Forced Changes In Your Order?

It was just a week ago today that Chevrolet set rocked the Corvette Nation when it released the pricing for the 2023 Corvette Z06. With a starting price of $106,395 for the 1LZ Coupe while a loaded Z06/Z07 Convertible with 3LZ and Carbon Fiber Wheels will set you back $158,000+, the cost to own America’s newest sportscar is far greater than anyone expected.

We really can’t blame Chevrolet for the higher prices, which no doubt takes into account the global rise in the price of raw materials, shipping, and fuel costs. But we also think that part of it is our fault for lusting after a car so badly. Chevy was looking at a nearly 4-year backlog of customers lined up for an opportunity to own the car and may have put a premium price on the car just because they could.

One of the comments I saw somewhere said that “GM built the C8 Stingray to generate the excitement and interest in the mid-engine platform while the Z06 is all about GM getting paid for it.”

We’re not faulting members of the Corvette Team for saying the Z06s cost would be relative to what we saw in the previous generation. That was probably the plan until everything went sideways in 2020. GM Finance sets the prices for vehicles, and those bean counters don’t play, as we all know.

So we got our Z06 prices, and with the release of the dealer order sheets, a potential buyer can easily run the math to determine what exactly their dream Corvette will cost. So we wanted to ask you if the higher-than-expected pricing impacted your Z06 order. Take the poll and let us know!

With the 2023 Z06 pricing now out, how will that affect your order:

  1. One only needs to see all the wrecked C8s to figure the vast majority of Corvette fanboyz have absolutely no business driving a new Z06 on public roads. How much fun can it be to toodle along at 55 or 70 with all that amazing automotive sophistication at your command?

  2. That poll result was not something I expected, given how some commenters here openly defended markups (ie, if you want the car, just pay whatever markup the dealer wants, no matter what, etc).

However, the pricing, as unexpected as it was to most, is really not surprising at all. My guess is that the ZR-1 will breach $200 large before options. GM knows people will pay it.

Cool car, but I am more than happy with my 2023 C8! Looking forward to seeing Z06’s out there!!

  3. It’s not that it’s too expensive, it that it’s just way too little car for the money and not worth dealing with the nightmare that is the GM dealer experience. I’m also extremely leery about spending that kind of money and then having to take it to a GM dealer for repair. If I’m looking for performance or attention for 200K I can also do way, WAY better than a commie built Chevrolet. Sure, if it were a performance ‘bargain’ where the little guy could play with the big boys on a working man’s wage, absolutely, sign me up. Everybody loves an underdog. If you’re gonna charge McLaren money for it, I’m just gonna buy a McLaren.

  4. The $105,000 (excluding destination freight charge) starting price for a 2023 Z06 coupe puts it around 64% higher than the starting price of a 2023 Stingray coupe, and gets you 35% more (naturally-aspirated) horsepower.
    In comparison:
    1) when the C7 Z06 coupe was introduced in 2015 its starting price of $83,000 was around 51% higher than the starting price of a 2015 Stingray, and that got you 43% more (supercharged) horsepower; and
    2) when the C6 Z06 was introduced in 2006 its starting price of $65,000 was around 49% higher than the starting price of a 2006 Stingray, and that got you 26% more (naturally-aspirated) horsepower.
So yes, GM is charging a higher premium for the new C8 Z06 then they did for previous new Z06 models, but keep in mind that it is commonly acknowledged that the C8 Stingray’s introductory starting MSRP in 2020 of $60,000 was ridiculously low for a world-class mid-engined sports car. Also, the new Z06 features the most powerful naturally-aspirated engine ever built, and that does not come cheap.

  5. It’s not the pricing that’s priced most out of the market, it’s the pricing plus dealer markups that has. Landers Chevrolet in Norman, Ok is adding $35k to msrp. That’s a price I’m not willing to pay.

  6. There’s a reason why 24% of the sales on mecham auctions are corvettes. It’s because they’ve always been the best bang for the buck. Get greedy and watch out!

  7. I refuse to pay a dealer markup. I want to order but for MSRP. I think GM should do what Ford did with the GT. Buyer signs a contract that they can’t flip it for 24 months, which I would do. That would put a stop to both dealer markup and flippers.

  8. Maybe with all the loot they will be collecting they can pay their bail out money they stole back to the taxpayers. Not! Barry told them they can keep the money.

  9. Eventually enough Corvettes will be built to satisfy demand. Or the economy could get even worse and a recession will hit which will further reduce the flipping. I appreciate all the folks buying early Z06 production that will be helping Chevrolet “field test” this high technology, clean sheet LT6 engine. There is a lot of technology in there to “test & fix”. Me, I’m sort of glad that I’m going to have to wait in line a year or two.

  10. I just dont care about any DEALER that trys to sell it over sticker price quit paying it and they will come down.More money than brains !!!

  11. When I put my $5000 down at Ciocca Chevrolet I always intended on a base Z 06 with only 3 options black wheels red calipers and assemble my own engine. I drive my 15 to work in midtown Manhattan once a week and I will drive the Z as well. As far as price we really can’t blame GM for Bidenflation

  12. I had a high number at Ciocca. I wouldn’t get one for years. I got my deposit refund back and will just wait to see how things shake out. The price doesn’t deter me, but I was a little surprised. My local dealer here in Lake Havasu wants 50K over MSRP! I have the money, but won’t allow myself to get screwed. I have a 2019 Z06 to hold me over. I usually wait until the kinks are worked out anyway. I guess that’s a good rationalization. Someone mentioned McLaren at those prices. I would have one now if I lived in a city with a service center for them.

  13. It’s not the price that GM has placed on it that’s the problem, it’s the dealer markups. My local dealer Landers Chevrolet has a $35k market adjustment added. I’m out on anything over msrp.

  14. GM Offering Z06 Buyers $5,000 in Rewards Points for Not Flipping Their Corvettes

For a limited time, My Chevrolet Rewards members can earn an additional 500,000 points — a $5,000 value — when they retain ownership of their vehicle for 12 months after purchase. Points can be redeemed on GM Financial Payments, Accessories, and more!

WHERE IS CHEVROLET GETTING THIS 5,000 DOLLAR SUM OF REWARD POINTS TO PAY ALL OF THE REAL Z06 BUYERS???
FROM THE OUTRAGEOUS, HIGH AND GREEDY BASE PRICE ON ALL Z06 MODELS THAT’S WHERE,

SO ANOTHER STUPID MOVE APPROVED BY MS. BARRA AND MR. REUSS TO PENALIZE CORVETTE FANATICS OUT OF ANOTHER $5,000 THAT IS BEING FORCED INTO THE MSRP.
DOES PORSCHE HAVE A REWARD POINTS GIFT OF $5,000 ADDED INTO A 911 MSRP?
JUST ONE MORE REASON TO HATE CHEVROLET WHILE LOVING THE CORVETTE!

  15. I totally changed direction when I saw the MSRP. $106,399 plus TTT, then ADM?!? You’re looking at $200,000. Then I’ve got to deal with a Chevy dealer to get it fixed?!? I think it’s absolutely absurd what Chevy is doing with the Corvette. It’s no longer the middle class sports car. This is what we get after giving them tax payer money to bail them out of bankruptcy?!? I won’t ever buy another GM product again.

  16. I thought I read on this site that GM stated they will not allow Dealership to overprice their MSRP. Or they would be blocked. BS! It only hurts GM due to the lack of sales. People stick together will make waves GM won’t like.

  17. the 2009 ZR-1 had a base price of $105k, according to a Car and Driver article I have in an old issue. top speed slightly higher, but lower horsepower. Most of us would admit the new Z06 is a vastly better car that the older ZR-1. Just because it has the Z06 name on it does not mean it is on the middle rung of the Corvette ladder. At least that is my opinion. Now, when the E-Ray, Zora, or whatever Chevy comes out with next, that will really make things interesting!

  18. In 2019 I called a dealer in Austin to see if they had a ZR-1. So happen, that day they received a low wing unit still dressed in white from the factory. I inquired on price and for sale at MSRP. I placed a deposit of $1,000, traded in my 2018 Z06 3LZ and picked it up the next day. Jump ahead, I called a dealer in central Texas about a 2023 Z06 and no one on the list and willing to take a $500 deposit and place an order. I now have a preliminary order number and waiting on allocation or not. Dealer sells only at MSRP. So, I am just waiting to see what happens. Called the Corvette order tracking number today, very nice gentleman looked up my order and it is in the system awaiting next step.
