Someone definitely let their 1970s imagination run wild when they were customizing this 1968 Corvette convertible decades ago.

But actually, considering the time frame when the third generation of Chevy’s sports car made its debut, the custom touches on this Stingray are relatively mild.

Now, this road trip to the past is up for sale – at no reserve – on eBay. Despite its now-tacky interior, interest has been intense – with 35 bids pushing their way to $8,100 with the auction coming to a close Tuesday night.

The listing doesn’t tell us much about the car, but the two most noticeable features visible to anyone’s eyes are the woodgrain added to the rear panel around the taillights and the deeply tufted seats, dash pad, and door panels. We’re actually surprised the seats are leather and not crushed velvet, so the owner responsible for these mods back in the day did show some level of taste and restraint, didn’t he?

The current owner points out that the matching numbers, small-block 327 V8 engine and a four-speed manual transmission are still in place, though the car has been sitting “for many years” and will need a “full restoration,” he adds.

He believes this Stingray remains a “straight” and “very complete” car, and even includes the rare side pipe exhausts chosen by only 4,695 of the 28,566 customers at a cost of $36.90.
