Could General Motors be getting into the restoration business, similar to the way Porsche already restores vintage cars for its customers?

Of course, no one really knows for sure the answer to that question right now, but GM Authority recently reported that the carmaker has filed to trademark the term “GM Restoration” on June 20 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, which assigned it a serial number of 97466832.

GM Authority theorizes that “GM Restoration could be the name of a new restoration division that will professionally restore vintage GM vehicles, or it may be for a new line of officially licensed repair and/or replacement parts for GM products that are no longer being produced.”

As an example, they point to the Porsche Classic Factory Restoration facility that already operates out of its Experience Center in Atlanta, where the vintage autos of interested customers are professionally restored using original techniques and manuals. The company also sells Porsche Classic Genuine Parts for its vintage models.

A similar program could prove to be as equally enticing to the owners of classic GM cars like Corvettes, Camaros, Chevelles, Trans Ams, and many, many more.

Would you like to have your classic Chevy professionally restored by the manufacturer? After all, who knows the cars better than the people who built them? We’re sure that such a restoration wouldn’t be cheap, but it would likely be done right and with the full backing of a billion-dollar corporation.
