It’s hard to believe that 2022 is almost half over. Where does the time go! The good news is that Thursday, June 30th is the traditional Birthday of the Chevrolet Corvette as that’s the day back in 1953 that the first Corvettes came off the assembly line in Flint, Michigan, and into the hearts of sportscar fans everywhere.
To celebrate the Corvette’s birthday, our friends at Mid America Motorworks helped organized the very first “Drive Your Corvette to Work Day” back in 2000 and it has been a date circled on our calendar ever since. The idea behind “Drive Your Corvette to Work” is to get as many Corvettes on the road on the Friday of the Corvette’s birthday. Here is Mike Yager remarking several years ago about the special day:
“We understand why many owners consider their Corvette to be a special car and only drive it occasionally,” said Mike Yager, Chief Cheerleader of Mid America Motorworks, “but we think driving your Corvette to work, at least one day a year, is an excellent way to demonstrate just how popular Corvettes are and it is a chance to Save the Wave and keep the Corvette spirit alive!”
While the pandemic may have tamped down on some of the celebrations over the last couple of years, now is great time for Corvette owners, and especially those with classics in the garage, to get them out for a drive this Friday. Show off your Corvette to those at your work and it’s a great opportunity to let your co-workers know why the Corvette is America’s Favorite Sports Car.
If you take your Corvette to work, may sure you get some photos and share them online to let others know the fun that Corvette owners have everywhere. Yes, we realize that many of you drive your Corvettes every day and some of you are even retired with no job to drive to…But for everyone else, Friday July 1st is your time to get out and drive that car!!

One problem, at least for those of us in Canada. July 1 is our national Canada Day holiday, so many of us with jobs to drive to won’t be going to work at all that day, let alone in our Corvettes. And even if we did drive our Corvettes to work, there likely wouldn’t be anyone else there to show them off to!
