[VIDEO] Top Gear Highlights the World's Fastest C8 Corvette

Rob Dahm, a man with one of the coolest business cards out there – Tuning Correspondent, Top Gear – recently visited FuelTech USA in Ball Ground, Georgia, to get a look at the king of all C8 Corvettes. The mad scientists in the Peach State have officially one-upped Emilia Hartford and “Phoenix” with their build, that, get this, is able to stay in one piece despite making more than 1,350 HP. The key components to this Red beast are a pair of high-sitting turbos, methanol, and nitrous. No smoking around this car, please! Racing seats, a crazy set of drag meats, trick blue exhaust tips, and FT’s specialty control module screens round out the most noticeable of the remaining upgrades.

After a brief look around the shop that includes a blown C5 and a Ferrari 355, Dahm takes us on a walkaround of the video’s star car before we head outside to bear witness to the October ’21 record run where the car that needs its own nickname traps a ridiculous 160.92 MPH while stopping the clock in 8.97 seconds; onboard and impressive drone views, included! We then return to the garage and present-day for an (also short-lived) interview with the pilot, who turns out to be none other than Anderson Dick, a Brazilian immigrant, and entrepreneur who realized his American Dream by founding FuelTech in 2003.

If short and sweet is how you prefer your YouTube videos, you’ve found the right place! All of the above happens before the 4:25 mark (it’s easy to be quick when the drag portion lasts less than nine ticks!). Next, Rob and Anderson take the animal C8 out to “make some fun noise” at Silver Dollar Motorsports Park. While the surface is getting prepped, Anderson talks us through the crazy transmission tuning – think 2.8-seconds from a standstill to 3rd gear, all regulated by the FT vehicle module – that it takes to get almost 1,400 ponies down the strip smoothly.

The first live run happens at 5:34 with Rob riding shotgun. After getting the front wheels off the ground, the car, unfortunately, enters limp mode, ending the maiden Top Gear voyage early. Anderson explains that this is a common issue plaguing hopped-up C8s, and it usually boils down to a need for more or less automated clutch application. His team plugs in, fiddles around a bit, and the game is back on! Run 2 also ends in failure, with the muscle-bound Stingray immediately throwing the rear passenger wheel housing and transmission wiring to the curb. Remember that quip about the car staying in one piece? Maybe we spoke too soon; it turns out that dealing with nearly triple the amount of power that a car was designed to handle might be construed as pushing the limits! Luckily, this second major hiccup still isn’t enough for the FT crew to raise a white flag. Somehow, run three kicks off at 8:12 after an on-the-fly fix job (these guys are good!). Finally, an 1/8th mile ET flashes across the screen, and the result seems like it was staged by the SRT Hellcat team as the numbers 6.66 appear in bright yellow letters.

With everything finally ironed out, Anderson is brave enough to hand the keys of his expensive creation over to someone else for the first time as Rob tries a solo fourth pass. Without a passenger and wearing an expression straight out of the high-g scenes in Top Gun: Maverick, Rob records a [email protected] in the eighth mile! To give some context to that kind of speed, the FuelTech C8 is only moving 3.5 MPH slower after 660 feet than a 2014 Stingray Z51 would be after running the full 1,320! Amazing stuff!

  1. Anderson giving the keys to a guy, I am guessing that you have just met or don’t see all the time. Doesn’t matter that he has experience with big horsepower cars. Is so cool. Drop the hammer after holding the brake and the Fueltech box does the rest is absolutely amazing!!

  2. Seeing that it has like a 10-speed transmission one you put like311s, 323s, or 356s for a gear ratio in the rear end and that collar run a serious quarter mile seeing that the gears is so short and the transmission with the dual clutch it called much faster
