Corvettes for Sale: After 30 Years with Same Family, this 1970 Corvette Convertible Needs a New Home

After more than 30 years in the same family, this 1970 Corvette convertible is finally looking for a new home.

We spotted it on Barn Finds, where this classic C3 Corvette is being offered for $15,000 on Craigslist out of Katy, Texas.

This Stingray harkens back to the original 300 Corvettes from 1953 that all featured the identical Polo White over red color scheme, and even though photos show some problems with the body, including a significant crack over a fender well and assorted other blemishes, it’s still a beautiful car, at least in our eyes.

The first generation of the family is said to have bought the car more than 30 years ago, then passed it down to his grandson who’s now heading off to college and just doesn’t have time to pursue a restoration. (None of our business, but being the sentimental types, we’d be inclined to hold onto this family heirloom for a few more years until Junior has a good-paying job and can afford proper repairs.)

The second-generation says this Corvette has been kept in a garage for the past six years, and he started trying to fix it up but never got past the hole in the rusty gas tank and the missing gas cap.

On the bright side, the engine is believed to have been rebuilt at some point (“couldn’t be but few thousand miles at most,” according to the listing), and the car did run five years ago before it was permanently parked in said garage and still turns over now.

The red interior appears to be perhaps the strongest part of the car, with no tears or cracks and door panels and seats that look decent enough.

Still, some onlookers on Barn Finds aren’t too sure about this one, with one posting: “Buyer beware. Looks to me like it was stored outside for awhile. Grass doesn’t grow on the tires when parked inside and rust out doesn’t happen to this degree either. Too bad it was a nice car at one time.”

What’s your take on this chrome-bumper classic that’s trying to survive for another generation?

  1. Looks like it was stored in a garage with a leaky roof and a dirt floor. I’d say his price is about $10K too high.
