One of the favorite parts of the Corvette Team’s presentation at the National Corvette Museum’s NCM Bash is to check out the sales charts for both exterior and interior colors for the outgoing model year. Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles shared the breakdown of color choices made by 2022 Corvette Buyers and the results were somewhat surprising.

Corvette’s three core colors once again did very well. Torch Red and Arctic White were the two top colors for the year coming in at 16 and 14 percent of production. It’s hard to say we are surprised that 2022 Corvette owners once again chose Torch Red as the top exterior color for the model year. The classic shade of red is the perfect coating for the “American Ferrari” and together with its Carbon Flash Metallic contrasting aero kit and vents, it’s an almost unbeatable combination.

We’re also not surprised to see the third “core” color Black slip to fifth on the production charts as buyers continued their love affair with Red Mist first introduced in 2021 and 2022’s hot new color Hypersonic Gray which was also featured on the C8’s first special edition model. Although the Corvette Team’s presentation shows Red Mist with 13% penetration just above Hypersonic Gray and its 13% penetration, when you look at the 2022 Total Paint Trim Combinations slide that Harlan shared and you’ll see that Hypersonic Gray actually outsold Red Mist 3291 to 3274. Those Hypersonic versions of the 2022 C8.R Edition were hot enough to steal the third-place slot from Red Mist.

At the bottom of the production charts lies the other new-for-2022 color Caffeine Metallic which only accounted for 385 vehicles produced. As a comparison, Zeus Bronze sold 509 in 2021. I was somewhat surprised to see Silver Flare also at the bottom of the charts with just 922 Corvettes produced. Silver Flare was first offered in 2021 where it was the 7th with 1804 produced. And finally, I can’t let Ceramic Matrix Gray off without a comment. This color has now been on Corvettes for five model years beginning in 2018 and it will be back for it’s sixth with the 2023 model year. That color came in 9th with 1202 produced.

Here is the breakdown of Exterior Colors based on model for the 2022 Corvette Stingray:

As for interiors, Jet Black is on nearly a third with 29% of Corvettes followed by Adrenaline Red at 26%, Natural at 11%, and Skycool Gray at 10%. Harlan also comments that over a third of buyers are selecting a colored seat belt. Adrenaline Red is the most common upgrade with 15% of orders followed by Rapid Blue at 6% and Natural at 5%.

We also get the 2022 Total Paint/Trim Combinations which are a lot of fun to look at as you can see the interior counts paired with the Exteriors. Scanning the figures below we believe the top combination to be the traditional pairing of Arctic White with an Adrenaline Red interior. There were a total of 1817 Corvettes produced in the color combination. However, Torch Red with Adrenaline Red was second at 1,654 followed by Torch Red with the Black interior at 1,649.

There’s always a couple of oddball pairings on the list, so congratulations if you are the owner of an Amplify Orange with the Morello Red interior or Elkhart Lake Blue with Morello Red interior. Both of these were the only ones produced in these combinations:

“It’s interesting to see. We keep track of all the different color combinations and even on the exterior colors, certain colors sell better as coupes and certain ones are more popular as convertibles,” says Harlan.

Stay tuned as we have more NCM Bash info coming up!

  1. If Red Mist was a true metallic red, not a shade of orange in most light, it may have surpassed both HG and AW. Let’s see what GM does with its next metallic red.

  2. that’s my car! Torch Red 2021 with BBS Wheels.

  3. Tip o’ the hat to the only person ordering Elkhart Lake Blue over Morello Red – bet it is a beauty and not an odd duck as some might believe.

  4. yes the blue/m.red probably looks great, the orange/m.red not so much. I have the honor of the most popular combo on my 2021 – the arctic white with adrenaline red. And Caffeine has proven to be less sought after than zeus bronze. Yet no colors have been discontinued for 2023 yet? Maybe by fall.

  5. GM needs to drop silver flare and bring back blade silver. Sports cars should be available in a classic silver. If you’ve seen one, silver flare is not it. They missed it with that color. Of course…it’s my opinion, but the numbers back me up.

  6. These charts are great especially when analyzing where your car ranks overall in the color combinations. Looks like there might be a boo boo in the first chart, should be 25,831 total?? I ended up with a Silver Flare Convertible with Morello Red interior making it extremely rare which really surprised me.
