Maybe the driver of this black C7 Corvette coupe couldn’t stand to look at all the damage he had just inflicted to the left side of the car.

And that’s one explanation of why he climbed out and took off running after a hit-and-run accident that left less than 200 residents in the area briefly without power Saturday night.

Details remain sketchy about the accident that occurred about 7 p.m. last night at Magnolia and Maylen roads in West Ashley, South Carolina near Charleston. Magnolia Road is known for its lively bars and restaurants.

Witnesses told deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office that the Corvette driver lost control, left the roadway, soared into the air, clipped a power pole, and finally came to a halt in the road again.

The driver then left the scene and has not been found, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Andrew Knapp.

The scene had been cleared by deputies about 90 minutes after the wreck, and Dominion Energy crews soon restored electrical service, according to the 11 p.m. edition of Live5 News out of Charleston.
