When it comes to community engagement, we think the Jefferson County Sheriff is absolutely doing it right when it comes to meeting their constituents. Of course, those meetings are taking place at the Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado with the Sheriff’s Ford Explorer Police Vehicle offering to race all comers on this two-lane raceway.
The cruiser has previously raced a Nissan R35 GT-R, a Tesla Model Y, and even a Chevy Camaro ZL1<. But in this latest video from the Wheels YouTube Channel, the contender for this race is a C7 Corvette Z06.
With 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, the supercharged Z06 weighs in at 3,560 pounds. The Pursuit-rated Explorer’s stats aren’t really known, so a quick google search shows the highest engine output available is 400-hp with the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine while a standard Explorer weighs in at 4,385 lbs. With all the emergency equipment installed, it’s probably a couple hundred pounds more.
The two vehicles line up at the track with the Explorer taking the far lane. The sheriff skips the pre-race burnout (thereby saving the taxpayers on replacing worn tires) while the Z06 lights them up and then both creep up to the starting line. Just as the staging lights go green, the Sheriff activates the emergency lights and siren and then they are off! The Yellow Z06 opens up a multi-car lead to easily take the win in 11.55 seconds at 121.35 mph, while the Police Explorer finished with a leisurely 15.78 seconds at 89.50 mph!

The only problem is that the radio waves from the cop’s Motorola travel at the speed of light. Not going to outrun that, unfortunately.

Cop shoulda left on the first amber.
Seems some of you don’t know drag racing very well. The corvette easily beat the police car to the finish line but actually lost the race because he red lit (left the starting line too soon).
