[POLL] Should Deion Sanders Get His College QB Son a $120K C8 Corvette?

Posthumously, in 1997, Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace warned the public about the pitfalls of fame, fortune, and success in his song “Mo(re) Money, Mo(re) Problems.” We all dream of “making it” once in a while, but we rarely think about the kind of baggage that comes along with a sudden influx of money and attention, or worse, a sustained state of accomplishment.

Some of the primary issues exclusive to people in the public eye revolve around how to mix their wealth and their children. How can one instill a work ethic in their kids/keep those kids from becoming entitled monsters when they are constantly surrounded by your riches? Furthermore, how should you handle your own desire to buy your kids extravagant things when you love them, and you can afford it, but it could lead them down a path of non-appreciation? Finally, when you are drawing up your final will and testament, do you set them up for their whole lives, allowing them to never work for a thing, or do you send them into the world to blaze their own trail like you did, forcing them to earn their own way?

This whole conundrum is a classic lose-lose situation. Depending on how you play your cards, you can either pull a Daniel Craig/Aston Kutcher/Sting/Gordon Ramsey and not give your kids a dime, making you look like a selfish jerk, or you can be – insert the first of many famous people that you can think of here – and have public perception say that you are personally responsible for raising a (bunch of) spoiled brat(s).

Enter one of the greatest athletes of all time and the current head football coach at Jackson State University; “Prime Time” “Neon” Deion Sanders. This past week, the NFL Daily YouTube channel posted a video of Coach Prime shopping for C8 Corvettes with his second son, Shedeur, who just so happens to be a Quarterback on his dad’s college roster. The one-minute clip says that Deion is DEBATING whether he should drop $120,000 on a triple-black, high-wing, drop-top ‘Vette for Shedeur. The recent toe amputee does have some reservations, though, most specifically with the cost of the example of America’s Sports Car in question; he humorously asks if it comes with a masseuse for that price before Shedeur fires up the Bluetooth, and Deion says, “for that amount of money, the rapper better actually be in the car with us.”

So, as of filming, it seems like it’s far from a done deal, and we want to help the former big-league outfielder/base stealing expert/lead-off hitter, FSU track star, return man, shut-down corner, and occasional offensive secret weapon out with this tough call. While buying a kid a Corvette doesn’t rub this blogger wrong like, say, gifting them a Ferrari, I’d only say “go for it” if the kid was a car enthusiast that absolutely loved ‘Vettes. Since Shedeur went right for the stereo and not the LT2, though, our official recommendation to the 8x Pro Bowler and back-to-back Super Bowl champion is to take your $120k to another GM dealership and get the kid the new Escalade with the wicked 36-speaker AKG sound system. It shares a similar 6.2L V8, is more practical in every possible way, except maybe parking, brings just as much (or more) street cred to the table, and, most importantly, it is far less likely to result in a life-ruining, Henry Ruggs-style accident. That is our two cents; now, we want to throw it down to our esteemed panel of readers.

What do you say, Corvette Nation?

  1. Seriously? Who cares??

Let him spend whatever. It’s not like he’ll have to wait for it when he orders one.

  2. Since the other choice is the Escalade, which isn’t far off the cost of the Corvette, I say let the two of them decide which vehicle Dad wants to spend HIS money on. The third option doesn’t make sense…..they are out shopping for a vehicle. Some people actually know their kids better than those on the internet might know them, and base their decisions on that.

  3. Hell no. I would think very few if ANY 20 yr olds could handle a car like that. If it’s his first car then HELL NO!! Maybe an older one for starters, but that’s a big maybe.

  4. NIL have him earn it on his own. He will appreciate it more and take better care of it if he does.
