Sketch by GM Design Has People Talking About an Electric Corvette SUV

It’s been a while since we shared a rendering of a possible Corvette SUV, about which rumors have been spreading on the internet for the past few years.

Obviously, purists don’t like the idea of anything like an ordinary four-door vehicle mentioned in the same breath as “America’s Sports Car.”

But in today’s profit-driven corporate world, it might not necessarily be a bad thing to stretch the Corvette brand in another direction, the way other sports car legends like Lamborghini and Ferrari are doing.

The latest rendering of such a possible Corvette SUV was penned by a creative designer at General Motors named Jason Chen, who posted this drawing on his Instagram account at @macotodesign.

With GM rapidly beaming itself up to the electric vehicle universe, it doesn’t take much of a stretch to believe that the company might be considering a super-powered SUV with all the pizazz of the Corvette brand standing behind it. While gasoline runs through our veins as much as the next guy and we don’t want to see the exhausts sounds of an LT2 disappear anytime soon, we still are intrigued by the possibilities that electric power could offer as far as increased performance levels.

We already know that an electric hybrid C8 Corvette named the E-Ray is apparently in the works, so it wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise to see a totally electric Corvette SUV. A 2021 Bloomberg report said that GM is already working on at least one electric Corvette SUV as the Corvette brand begins to expand, We’ve said it before, though, that such a vehicle would need to be far above a standard-issue GM sport utility vehicle like the Blazer or Suburban.

While Corvette enthusiasts have argued against the likes of the demise of hidden headlights and round taillights in the past, and even the mid-engine format, the popularity of the 2020-22 C8 Corvette since its introduction proves to us that even old dogs can be taught new tricks.

We like the look of this Corvette SUV rendering, but we’d prefer to see the envelope pushed even more. Shake up the automotive world and make it even wilder than the Lambo Urus, GM!

  1. I think this rendering of the Corvette ESUV is cartoonish, but striking. The only stipulation I would recommend….would be a back-up…. internal combustion engine such as the solid lifter 427 cubic inch L-72 motor mated to an auxiliary M-22 heavy-duty 4-speed………

  2. GM can’t keep the production line going on a sports car and they want to do an SUV to “COPY” everybody else. Can’t be themselves as we have seen in the European styled C8.

  3. You know, I completely forgot that GM did not have enough SUVs in their portfolio, and that they absolutely need another…

I also forgot that they don’t have enough trouble keeping up with current demand…

Howabout this? Why don’t they create this super SUV and call it something else (the Chevrolet “Unobtania” or “Sarcastica” sounds good), price it through the roof and tell prospective buyers that unless you are a celebrity or ‘influencer’, that it’ll be AT LEAST a 10-12 month wait until you get it???

    Corvette is a car….NOT A BRAND!!!!

  4. GM and Chevrolet: Please do NOT dilute the Corvette brand by fielding an SUV. Though a few performance brands have done so, a Corvette SUV is a tardy initiative. Even Ford beat you to it with their Mustang SUV which isn’t exactly flying out the door according to my Ford stock.

  5. Looks more like a Traverse to me possible the E version. Corvette… I think not based on the previous comments made by GM officials…

  6. All I ask is that the LT6 does not disappear with the Z06. I don’t expect turbocharging but I would like to see a model that is a hybrid using that engine. I’d rather the Zora not be the first electric. If it is as some speculate, how would it be so much better than the then soon to be upcoming C9 electrics with likely a different and “better” body design.
