Members of the Chevrolet Corvette Engineering Team were at the 2022 Twelve Hours of Sebring and held court on Saturday at noon at the Corvette Corral tent with a discussion on what’s new with Corvette as well as answering questions from the owners in the crowd. Taking part in the discussion and Q&A were Vehicle Chief Engineer Josh Holder, Corvette Product Marketing Manager Harlan Charles, Executive Design Manager Kirk Bennion, and Corvette Structural Engineer Ed Moss.

Josh Holder starts off and gives a rundown of the new naturally aspirated 670-hp Corvette Z06 before handing off to Harlan who goes through the latest news and updates for the 2023 model year on both the Z06 and Stingray including the 70th Anniversary models. Harlan again confirms that 2023 Corvette Stingray ordering “will start soon with Z06 later this summer.

Exterior Design Manager talks about the aero on the 2023 Corvette Z06. First, the base model is equipped with what Kirk calls the 3.0 spoiler. That low profile spoiler can have special wickers added to it for 650 lbs of downforce while the Z07’s carbon fiber wing will give you 734 lbs of downforce at 300 KPH (190 MPH). “We do a lot to not only make these parts to be very functional but we also want them to be very beautiful as well.

Following the team’s discussion, the microphones are then turned towards the audience and the team answered questions from owners in the corral.

Questions include what’s happening with the chip shortage, a couple transmission questions, exterior color choices, selling at MSRP, the return of Factory Tours, and more.

I grabbed the microphone at one point and asked if there was a chance the team would be taking the Z06s back over to the Nurburgring as they are still validating the car, and would we see a fast lap for the Z06? Unfortunately, the answer was no plans in the immediate future to be back at the ‘Ring with the Z06.

One person asked home many Z06s would be built and Josh replied “as many as we can.” Later in his answer, he says, “We are in the final stages of development…Bowling Green is starting to build cars. We’ve not yet built a saleable car (pre-production VIN), I think a lot of people thought we’re out driving Captured Test Fleet vehicles and things, so we promised the car later this summer and we’re working to do that, but were not done with doing that work, and part of that work is to make sure each and every car is perfect and meets our standards and your standards, and we’re going to launch the car very carefully in a measured way to make sure that happens.”
