The upcoming C8 Z06 is all the rage these days, and for good reason! The C8Z is an engineering marvel built right here in the good ol’ US of A to give successful working-class people access to the kind of exotic performance that has always been reserved for the “jet set.” It is also basic human nature to want the newest, fastest, most expensive, and coolest looking version of anything.

No matter how great the Z06 is on paper at this point, it has created a new faction of non-believers. “Ford’s recent attempt at a large flat-plane V8 (the 5.2L “Voodoo” of Shelby GT350 fame) had the reliability of a McDonald’s ice cream machine,” they say. “It doesn’t make any torque, especially in the around-town low-end,” has been a common refrain. “I want one so bad, but I could barely swing a 1LT Stingray,” they (ok, I) have added to their (my) official family crests.

Well, if you are looking to bring DIY Z06 power to your C8 Stingray, without the wait, intense competition for allocations, and almost-certain dealership markups putting an even bigger dent in your savings, then you need to get in touch with ProCharger ASAP; they’ll even throw-in a delicious side of that sweet torque that you’ve been dreaming about!

Using two company-owned C8s and three additional units on loan from customers, ProCharger was able to put a year and thousands of miles into the research, design, development, and testing of what they are calling the first centrifugally supercharged mid-engine car ever made. The results of their tireless work speak for themselves. Their primary test ‘Vette laid down a best pull of 458 HP and 420 lb-ft of twist on a Mustang dyno before going under the knife.

Once it was complete, their kit – which was recently given the excellent Hot Rod How-To step-by-step installation treatment (expect to spend 16-18 hours on this project) – yielded 154 horses and 94 torques, for respective totals of 612 and 514 at the wheels. That wheel-torque number bests the Z06’s crank rating by 54 lb-ft, and ProCharger’s wheel dyno HP figure translates to a Z06-beating 675 at the crank. The best part is that these numbers are for their base package that runs just 6 psi of boost. Turn it up to 9 with the “Stage II” tuner kit, and they are claiming 225+ additional horses over stock! In practice, C8s with the 6-psi tuner were 8 MPH quicker in the quarter-mile. Somehow, they were also able to shave .3 of a second in 0-60 acceleration from the quickest Corvette in history!

According to ProCharger’s website, the entire set-up starts at $12,899 (shipping now!). This means that anyone who is willing to forgo the looks, fancy tech, and about 2,000 rpm of extra revs that the Z06 offers, can build themselves a more powerful beast for a total (pre-tax) cost of $75,000! If you still aren’t sold, be sure to watch, and more importantly, listen, to ProCharger’s sweet promotional/informational video (that concludes with a kindly 100-HP-challenge to customers). The sound coming out of the P-Charged C8s takes the fighter-jet/rocket ship premise that Chevy has attached to the C8 since the beginning to a whole new level!

  1. Probably ought to change to beefier axles and heavier clutches for this increase. Now how much does that add to the total cost?
