[PICS] Tornado-Damaged C8 Corvettes Being Shipped to the Crusher?

In the early morning hours of December 11th a tornado swept through Bowling Green and during the storm, the Corvette Assembly Plant’s roof caught on fire. Damage to the facility was fairly minimal when compared to what others in the path of the deadly tornados were dealing with, but it was significant enough for General Motors to order the scrapping of up to 122 C8 Corvettes that were damaged or exposed to the elements.

We caught a couple of sightings of these damaged Corvettes in the weeks after the tornado as the cars were moved to a dirt fenced-in lot behind the assembly plant. One user even flew a drone over the damaged Corvettes which allowed for a closer look at these cars and we could see each was wearing an “X” spray-painted on the windshield to designate it for destruction.

Now, just over a month later from the storm and its resulting clean-up, new photos of these condemned C8 Corvettes show three of them on the back of a trailer as we believe they are being shipped to an automotive recycler for processing. These photos were shared by a Facebook user and picked up by GM Authority and they show the truck hauling the three Corvettes driving down the highway somewhere in Ohio, heading towards Cleveland. A commenter on GMA says there is a facility in Akron, OH that the manufacturers use for destroying vehicles and so they may be headed that way.

We see so many comments about these damaged Corvettes with some asking why undamaged components like the wheels and tires can’t be salvaged. As these Corvettes are most likely owned now by the insurance company, these vehicles are now their property to dispose of.

  1. so , the guy in the pikup stops for lunch. While he is eating some parts go missing. The PooPoo is called , he asks , Where ya taking these ? driver – To the crusher. Cop , ‘have a nice day….. If i was a gambler , i’d bet GM is Self Insured. If a insurance co owned these vehicles , they would be at Mecums….:-) i thik…..

  2. I can only imagine if this was the car you ordered and had been waiting months for delivery, only to see it on the back of a transport for crushing.

  3. These cars would be great for using them for retro. Putting an older Vette body onto these frames/drivetrain/interior. But Im guessing they wouldnt want a mid engine C2 etc lol. Sadly going to waste. Im sure its an agreement with the manufacturer.
