[PICS] Best Look Yet at the 2023 Corvette Z06's Underbody Aero Strakes

With the 2023 Corvette Z06 planning on starting production in just 104 days (but who’s counting!), there is plenty about America’s newest sports car that we are still learning about. Back in October during the reveal of the Z06, we learned that the aero package for the Z07-equipped Z06 would have underbody aero strakes, and it has taken over three months since the reveal to finally get some decent pics of these components.

As a quick recap, there are essentially three different versions of the 2023 Z06 Corvette as the car will be available as a standard Z06 model without the optional aero package, a standard Z06 with the optional aero package, and the Z06/Z07 with its complete aero package. The underbody strakes are only available with the Z06/Z07 package which also includes the front canards/dive planes, side rockers, and the two-pedestal high wing.

There are four of these aero strakes under the Corvette Z06 that are about five feet in length. Vehicle Performance Manager Alex MacDonald described the aero strakes as “starting out at the front about 1-inch apart from each other, on opposite sides of the centerline, and working back to the sides of the car to exit about the mid-door.” Their function is to remove the air from under the car, which reduces air pressure and increases road-holding. MacDonald calls the inclusion of the aero strakes “free aero; downforce with no drag penalty so we love them!”

MidEngineCorvetteForum.com member ReddyZ06 was at Barrett-Jackson on Monday for the beginning of their January auction and he was able to view the aero strakes on two of the 2023 Corvette Z06s on display. While these don’t show the full layout of the strakes, the photos give us a very good idea of how they channel the air from the center of the car outwards.

ReddyZ06 says that he shot these pics “from just outside of and under the rocker panel inward toward the car centerline.”

  1. Great engineering, just hope they’re flexible rubber so speed bumps don’t tear them off.

  2. Neat, but looks more for vanity than function, but understandably so. Alot of bolt heads and sharp angles presented to the airflow. Very dirty area from an aero perspective, especially at the relatively low Re that these components are expected to operate in. Just the thought of this aerodynamicist.
