Have you ever been sitting in a parking lot when a dilapidated old car rolls past and you think to yourself, “Gee, that Mercedes used to be all shiny and new 20 years ago, the apple of its owner’s eye, and now just look at it!”

When a car is new, it’s hard to believe it’s ever going to be old and worn-out. Even cars as beloved as Corvettes someday will lose their luster and become just an old piece of fiberglass.

Yes, even 2020 Corvettes – the hottest selling car in America right now – will become just another used car at some point in the future. Do you think original owners of ’63 split-window coupes ever thought their car would look like a piece of trash someday, but it happens. Even that big collection of Corvettes from 1953 to 1989 used for a VH1 promotion ended up covered with dust in a hodge-podge of garages.

Well, some of us won’t be around in 2071 so a very talented artist named wb.artist20 had the idea of using his skills to speculate on what a C8 Corvette might look like as a barn find half a century from now. We have to admit even with all the peeling paint and dirt, that is one beautiful barn find!

Here’s the way the creation by wb.artist20, also known as Oscar Vargas, is described on Instagram:

The idea of a barn find is always thrilling for enthusiasts. On the one hand, it is sad to think about a car being abandoned for so long, but on the other, it may be the perfect opportunity to get their hands on something truly valuable. Some cars, like the modern Chevrolet Corvette, as well as many performance cars from the past 15-20 years, could become incredible finds if found by the right person, but digital artist Oscar Vargas wanted to show how these cars could look.

“It’s fun for me to imagine,” Vargas says, “if people 50 years from now will get excited finding a beat-up dusty version of a current and very modern car like the C8.”

Our biggest concern for future restorers – much like enthusiasts working on C1s and C2s – is that parts will be hard to come by for C8s, especially with the large number of electronics used in new cars nowadays. You can just point to the relatively new C5 and already some parts are becoming scarce.

  1. I’m surprised nobody has printed a wrap to look like this yet. Seems that there are those out there who actually like the “rolling garbage” look.

  2. Hah! I can imagine someone coming up with a patina paint job like in the picture shown given that it’s such a cool look on rat rods, Highboys, and lowered, overpowered 1980’s Silverados. I don’t mind it if someone actually did it.

  3. LOL, that would be a sad thing for someone to NOT take care of such a beautiful car. They can afford the car, they can afford storage space to properly store it. maybe.
