Corvettes for Sale: 1954 Corvette Offered on Facebook Marketplace

If you’re handy with the mechanical parts of a car, then this 1954 Corvette available on Facebook Marketplace out of the Fort Lupton, Colorado area might be just the ticket for you.

While the body and interior looked to be in more than acceptable condition, the mechanical condition is lagging a little behind, though the owner of this first-generation Corvette says he did have it running on a gas can. That means it’ll likely take some work between the fuel tank and the carburetors to get back to normal operation.

Still, the asking price of $51,000 (or best offer) doesn’t seem to be too far off the market, considering that Hagerty appraises a similar car in Good condition at $56,000 and in Concours condition at $120,000 or more.

Back in high school, my industrial arts teacher and homeroom teacher had a ’54 under his carport, just down the road from the school. I drove by there hoping that he would sell it to me, but he showed no desire to part with his treasure. I sometimes wish now I had tried a little harder to buy that car but moved on to later Corvette models that were already running.

The ’54 model marked the largest production of the very similar first three years of Corvette production, with 3,640 units produced, compared to only 300 for the ’53 and 700 for the ’55.

While the first-year models were available only in Polo White, the color palette included at least three more choices the next year – Pennant Blue, Sportsman Red, and Black. However, Mike Antonick in his “Corvette Black Book” says some original owners reported a couple of other colors as well, including Metallic Green and Metallic Bronze.

This one appears to be finished now in a nice coat of Polo White, with a red interior that includes all the gauges.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t have the original 150 or 155 horsepower Blue Flame six-cylinder motor under the hood, but the seller believes with a little work, the car could become a driver very easily. He is also including a box of parts in the trunk, including the original carburetors and intake.

We’ve always thought the ’53-55 models look sharper as a hot rod, with aftermarket mag wheels and a higher-performing motor. What would you do to improve this ’54?
