Corvettes for Sale: A 'Very Clean' 1963 Corvette Split-Window Barn Find

Barn Finds usually focuses on cars that have been neglected, hidden in an old building, covered with dust and cobwebs and stacks of boxes.

Today, however, we share a story about a 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe that has been proudly kept “very clean” in a garage for the past 14 years by the current owner.

Sadly, due to a health condition, he can no longer enjoy driving this one-year-only C2 classic and has put it up for sale on eBay.

So far, two bids have been high enough to meet the reserve at $72,600, but the low number of bids doesn’t mean people aren’t interested in this car. In fact, 212 people are watching the auction, which comes to a close Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 12:10 p.m., so if you’re interested in becoming the new owner of this Daytona Blue SWC, you’d better get it in gear.

Some people like to keep their C2 Corvettes looking just like they came from the factory, with the original wheels and all. On the other hand, we’ve always preferred the look of custom mags like the ones on this car, or maybe even slots.

This car appears to be one that a new owner could begin enjoying immediately, without having to worry about immediately taking it to the shop for repairs.

For example, the seller says there are no cracks in the fiberglass body, and the frame is solid, a claim that appears to be backed up by one of the photos accompanying the listing.

The Saddle Tan interior has already been restored and looks to be in near-perfect condition. The most impressive thing to us is that all the gauges work, including the radio and oftentimes ornery clock.

Mechanically, we aren’t told if this is a numbers-matching car, but it is said to have the optional, more powerful L76 327/340 horsepower engine with a four barrel carburetor, up 90 horsepower over the standard engine. Back in the day, can you believe this option just added $107.60 to the MSRP of the car? We’re also told that the front and rear suspension have been restored.

Most importantly, the seller points out that his car “runs strong (with its four-speed manual transmission), does not overheat, and starts every time.” Sounds like a winning combination to us. How much would you be willing to pay for this nice example of a Split Window Coupe?

  1. A very, VERY fine-looking specimen of what I still consider to be the most beautiful of the eight generations of the Corvette. ‘Great color combination and super-clean given its age.
Whoever takes this prize home looks to be a very lucky individual. KUDOS!

  2. I have a C3 (Base engine) and a C6 (Z06). Would give my left nut (just an expression) for this split window to add to my “collection”, beautiful car.
