[PICS] Rendered Widebody C8 Corvette Shows Potential of Mid-Engine Layout

One of the criticisms we initially heard as the C8 Corvette was revealed is how mid-engine cars all look so similar. That may be true to the casual observer but we’ve come to appreciate how the various manufacturers can give their vehicles their own unique design philosophy that appears across their lineup.

Chevrolet has released the Stingray in both Coupe and Convertible form and if history repeats, the team will be launching another two to four models over the next five years. While we wait for these new Corvettes to appear, we can live vicariously through the digital artists who have been rendering their own versions of Corvette widebodies and future variations.

One design that we find interesting comes from the Instagram account of arnold_design who posted several renditions of an Elkhart Lake Blue widebody in which he reworked the front fascia and then really widened the rear which offered additional venting opportunities to the main side intakes. And then there are those Rose Gold forged wheels accented with matching blue brake calipers which look fantastic against the Elkhart Lake Blue body.

The rear shot is actually my favorite part of the render as the rear vents are moved lower and it helps to clean up the look. Of course, the round tailpipes are a given and in fact, I find myself somewhat nostalgic now that they are gone.

As you can see, I have decided to redesign the whole front bumper. Borrowing design cues from C3 and C4 Corvette and adding my own spin to it. Giving it a mean Stingray face ?. I wanted to give the overall shape an OEM look.

  1. Everything is cool except the side scoops. Multiple smaller scoops look too busy. The front grille is reminescent of KITT’s front fascia. The whole thing definately has some C8.R influence; perhaps we are seeing a glimpse of a ZR-1 idea? Either way, well done…better than the last concept seen here a month or so back!!
