[RIDES] Dana and Dave's 2015 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car Replica

I’m a sucker for Corvette Pace Cars (and Corvette Special Editions in general) so it’s no surprise to us that we are featuring Dana and Dave’s 2015 Corvette on RIDES.

Their Laguna Blue 2015 Corvette Pace Car is customized with the graphics package worn by the 2014 Corvette Stingray that paced the 97th running of the Indianapolis 500 in May 2013.

But I’ll let Dave tell the story:

We are Indy 500 enthusiasts. On May 26, 2013 we attended the Indy 500 and saw a car like this pace the track. The Laguna Blue color with the carbon graphite top and split spoke wheels attracted my wife’s attention.

The price for these options was high, so I thought maybe in a few years I could find a car with all the right options and make it into a pace car. I searched ever since then and found no cars with all the correct options.

Then I heard about the new 2015 with the 8 speed automatic. We decided to wait for that and ordered this car without knowing the price. We put our order in 4 months before Chevrolet was taking orders. There was talk of not being able to get the 8 speed; there was talk about not being able to get the Carbon Graphite top. I told our Dealer that I would not accept any car without all the correct options, even if I had to wait until 2016.

As it turned out our car was started on the first day of production and finished on Aug 12 2014. Then we had to wait 30 days for the dealer to receive the car. We got the car on Sept 12th and on Sept 14th we drove it to Indianapolis for the Strobe lights. Waymire did the installation. They specialize in Police, ambulance and Pace Car Strobe lights. While the car was at Waymier’s, Freelance Graphics installed the graphics. The Graphics are exact to the correct size and detail to match the original Pace Car.

TITLE

We drove the car home on Sept 19th, putting on its first 1100 miles. We enjoy sharing our experiences with others and will now travel the “USA in our new Stingray” instead of traveling overseas. We figure that the savings of no travel overseas will fund the depreciation of the car over the next few years.

We have driven the car from coast to coast and last year when it hit 50K miles we made the decision to award it silver stripes.

Thanks for sharing your fantastic Corvette Pace Car!
