Last week was Dream Cruise week here in the Motor City. While the undisputed main event was the 25th anniversary Woodward Dream Cruise, there were ancillary events taking place over the course of the week leading up the actual cruise.

For us Corvette folk, we partake each year in the Corvettes on Woodward 3-day extravaganza each Wednesday through Friday prior to the Dream Cruise. Certified Vettehead and event organizer Larry Courtney assembles a stellar agenda of activities each year that bring together Corvette aficionados from all over the US and Canada. Sometimes even further away.

This year’s agenda included tours of the GM Heritage Center, (which featured a C8 talk by Chevrolet’s Harlan Charles), the Lingenfelter Collection, Detroit’s Parade Company, the Stahl’s Automotive Foundation, and engine builder Katech.

The marquee event each year is the annual Wednesday night Corvette cruise and food drive. For a $10 donation and some non-perishable food for the Open Hands Food Pantry, patrons came together to enjoy each other’s company and do some good for the neighborhood. For the second year in a row Corvettes staged at the Masonic Lodge in Bloomfield Hills. Cars started rolling in about 3pm and steadily continued to occupy both parking lots until it was time to leave. Harlan Charles stopped in again with a Rapid Blue C8 which was mobbed for the rest of the evening. About 7:30pm the Bloomfield Hills police arrived to help usher the cars out into the 2 right lanes of historic Woodward Avenue and down to the food bank.

In all, we’d estimate about 200 Corvettes showed up for this year’s Corvettes on Woodward event. Although rain was in the area, it held off and never impacted the activities. If you’re ever in town for the Woodward Dream Cruise, make sure you stay up to speed on all the Corvette-centric events by reaching out to Larry Courtney at [email protected] and getting on his mailing list.
