[VIDEO] Chazcron's Raises the Roof on the C8 Corvette Hard Top Convertible

While everyone was in Bowling Green and going crazy over the C8 Corvette’s Drive-By at the National Corvette Museum’s Bash Event, one of our favorite designers let loose with another great render of the 2020 Corvette Hard Top Convertible.

Chazcron continues to amaze us with his renders that show multiple angles of the C8 Corvettes. In this video, we see how the C8’s convertible top might open and close. No one know if this process is the same as the C8 Corvette will be in real life, but it’s based on the same type of operation found on other hard top convertibles from Ferrari and Mazda. In fact, Chevrolet used a retractable hard top on its Chevy SSR pickup.

Here’s my speculation on how the 2020 Corvette hard top convertible will operate. This 3D model originated in Animation: Master and was ported to Blender. I’ve spent six months interpreting camouflage-covered spy photos, building and refining this model. I’m a professional retoucher by trade and modeling cars from spy shots is my hobby.

Prior to this video, Chazcron rendered a couple other hard top convertibles but wasn’t quite happy with the result. So he went with the same process as used by Ferrari:

Well, after much thought and pushing parts around, I came to the conclusion that the top most likely needs lie flat over the engine like the Ferrari. So I spent tonight reworking the engine cover and removing the window. 🙁 Here’s a grey game render of the progress, but it doesn’t look like much.

After the gray model comes these two yellow hard top convertible renders:

  1. Love the shade of green. The jade green is a color I really like, much more than the darker variations that have been offered in the past. This is a green I would buy, if you’re listening Chevy! My last two Vettes have been lemans blue and crystal red. Great rendering and interesting idea on the roof. I’m thinking that the side intakes may be toned down a bit at the “Big Reveal” The table top flat surface at the top of the intake looks a little tacked on in camouflage photos. I think it might be the last vestige of body cladding left on the car.
