Corvette owners certainly love the performance that’s available on each of the four models but there are always those who want more. And what’s wrong with that? The issue that holds many owners back from modifying their cars is that making changes to the stock engines could void the factory warranty.
While viewing some of the aftermarket performance products offered by GM for the Corvette at the NCM Bash this morning, a new air intake caught our eye. Best of all, if installed by an authorized GM dealership, it will keep the factory warranty intact.
The addition of a cold air intake is one of the easist ways to increase the performance of your Corvette. This one from GM performance Parts looks great too with a see-thru window featuring Corvette Racing’s mascot Jake. The air intake has a dry filter and so it’s maintenance free.
Surprisingly, the horsepower increase to the LT1 is negligible, but for LT4 and LT5 owners, you can expect to see an increase of 11 hp for the Z06 and 17 horsepower for the ZR1. The cold air intake does provide a significant increase in pressure loss performance and flow for all three engines:
- LT1: 30% @ 350g/s
- LT4: 28% @ 550g/s
- LT5: 26% @ 630g/s
The part number for the cold air intake is PN 81452141 and the cost is $625. You can order it through your GM parts counter but if you’re attending the bash, you can get 15% off the price when ordered here!
