Personally, I don’t think this is a list I would want to be known for making.

But hey, it’s Texas so go big or stay home!

The Houston Chronicle has dived into the records of Texas speeding tickets to find the fastest speeding tickets issued in 2017.

The article notes that the Texas Department of Public Safety sent them over 230 speeding tickets issued from January 1, 2017, to November 28, 2017, and that all of them were for speeds faster than 120 mph!

The fastest speeding ticket issued in 2017 was for a Honda motorcyclist who was allegedly going 181 mph in a 75 mph zone. A number of the 20 fastest speeding tickets were written to motorcyclists. The fastest ticket issued to a car was a Dodge Challenger SRT8 which was caught allegedly going 160 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Only one Corvette was on the list. An Arctic White 2017 Corvette (model not mentioned) was caught in Johnson County, Texas for allegedly going 146 in a 65 mph zone. Believe it not, that wasn’t the fastest Chevy on the list. Nope. That “honor” would go to the driver of a 2014 Chevy SS who was allegedly busted for 156 mph in a 70 mph zone!

Chron.com does mention that the list is only for those busted by the State and that local police departments and county sheriff offices were not included in the survey.

They also said that the fastest speeding ticket recorded in 2017 was less than one issued in 2016 – 209 mph in a 60 mph zone by a Suzuki motorcycle. For the record, 85 mph is the fastest speed zone in Texas, and that a speeding ticket of 20 miles per hour over the posted limit will also earn you a reckless driving charge.

We know that Texas has some wide open spaces, but they also have some great tracks to run including COTA, which is a more appropriate venue in case you have the need for speed. So as they are always telling me on Facebook, save it for the track!

  1. Believe in GA and FL, if you are charged going that fast (over 100 mph for certain), the Law confiscates your vehicle on the spot and you get to spend time in jail. I can’t say that is the way it works but then I don’t want to find out the hard way, either. 😉 That’s what track days are for – getting it out of your system more safely than on the highway.
