Corvettes on eBay: Barn Find 1963 Corvette with John Greenwood Built 427 V8

Here’s a 1963 Corvette convertible that bears the handprint of the legendary John Greenwood.

Greenwood converted the original fuel-injected 327 to a big-block 427 in 1968, and the car is now up for auction at no reserve on eBay. The current bid is $23,700 with just over three days to go.

The barn find 1963 Corvette was parked in the early 1980s, but some work has been done to get it ready for this sale, including going through the brakes and installing a new fuel tank, Holley carburetor, electric fuel pump (to replace the one installed by Greenwood), spark plugs, and battery. All else is as it was.

The seller says the car starts, runs, shifts, steers, and stops now.

Included in the sale is full documentation that it’s a two-owner car, with a clear title and registration from 1969. There’s also a letter from the original owner stating that Greenwood did the 427 conversion and that he sold it to the current owner. Greenwood also wrote a letter stating that he did the work for the original owner, that it is the first big-block customer car he ever built, and that it belongs to the current owner. The car has an official Greenwood serial number and is the only official Greenwood C2 known, according to the seller, who is including several photos from 1969 and later.

Other key facts:

  • Trim tag – 63 867 (63 convertible) 490K (blue vinyl) 6686 (convertible) 941A (Sebring Silver)
  • Dealer stamp 1 4 05 3 (May 1963)
  • Original options – power windows, power brakes, AM/FM radio, Sebring Silver
  • The powerplant is a CE pad stamp 427. Block casting 3916321. 4 bolt main, tapped for oil cooler.
  • Cylinder heads 3919840 rectangular port, closed chamber, HP. Intake manifold 3885069, unmolested.
  • Engine is as it was assembled by Greenwood.

The ‘Vette has an OEM 1967 hood installed by Greenwood during the conversion and has ’67 side slats and front grille. You can still see the fuel injection emblem post holes in the fender well. The rear quarters have been flared, but the original pieces cut out will be included with the car. It has no front bumpers, and a third brake light has been installed.

The seller describes the frame as “rusty but solid,” and notes that the birdcage is solid. The car has the original windshield, and the doors close as they should. Both door glasses are loose, not attached to the channel, as the core support is rusted out at the bottom.

As for the body, it is described as having never been hit and remains “solid” but with “some spidering here and there.”

The car has the correct original steering wheel and oil pressure gauge and comes with the 1967 vinyl hardtop installed by the original owner, still in good condition. It has the correct convertible frame and has new carpet, new vinyl upholstery, and new console armrest. Also includes the door arm rests and some interior close out panels.

Sold as is, where is. Ask all questions before bidding. Inspection available with appointment.
