[VIDEO] Dale Earnhardt Sr. and the Corvette C5R He Raced at Daytona

Our friend Lance Miller of Corvettes of Carlisle put together a tribute video today showing off the Corvette C5R racer that was campaigned 15 years ago by Dale Earnhardt Sr., along with his son Dale Jr., Kelly Collins and Andy Pilgrim at the 2001 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. The No.3 C5R finished 2nd in the GTS class and 4th overall.

Dale enjoyed his time in the Corvette so much that he began talking about putting a team together to race a Corvette at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Sadly, he died two weeks later (February 18, 2001) on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500 so we’ll never know what could have become of Dale’s sportscar racing plans.

Here’s Lance Miller giving us a cool walk around of the No.3 Corvette C5R before he starts it up for Dale Earnhardt Sr.:

And for those that want to see Dale in action in the Corvette C5R, here is a clip from his very first stint at the Rolex 24:
