As car enthusiasts let’s take a few moments to reflect on the state of the automobile and what has become an avocation for most of us as we close out 2012 and enter 2013. Simply, we find ourselves surrounded by the fastest, best handling and most technically advanced performance cars ever produced. No doubt about it. For those of you whining over the “muscle car” era of the sixties and early seventies get over it, you’re showing your age! If you don’t know it, this is the real “muscle car” era and we should all realize it and be thankful for it.

It’s been a busy couple of week with the Woodward Dream Cruise and Corvettes at Carlisle running on consecutive weekends. We finally got a chance to catch our breath and now we’ve got some really cool Corvette photo galleries coming from each event. But before we move on to Carlisle, let’s wrap up the 2012 Woodward Dream Cruise.

We and about 1.5 million of our closest friends converged on historic M-1 in metro Detroit to celebrate all things car and transportation related. GM Chairman/CEO Dan Akerson to Sell 1958 Corvette to Benefit Habitat for Humanity

If you were at the Woodward Dream Cruise over the weekend, you may have seen the 1958 Regal Turquoise Corvette that’s going on the auction block soon to help breathe new life into Detroit.

General Motors Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson had his 1958 Corvette on display at the Dream Cruise after earlier announcing that he’ll donate proceeds from the sale to Habitat for Humanity Detroit, which is trying to bring the Morningside Commons neighborhood on the city’s lower east side back to life.

As presenting sponsor of the 2012 Woodward Dream Cruise, Chevrolet celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the Corvette by showcasing a special timeline featuring milestone models of America’s Sports throughout its storied history.

The Corvette timeline was segmented by the six generations of Corvettes and the board behind the cars listed the significant developments that occurred during those years. Most of the Corvettes featured in the timeline came from the GM Heritage Center but there were also a lot of 2013 Corvettes on display as well.
