The internet’s abuzz tonight after a video has surfaced showing a Laguna Blue 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51 testing on the famous Nurburgring. The Corvette is shown making some fast runs through several turns with a helmeted driver and a co-pilot. Could it be that GM Engineers are doing some testing in Germany?
Chevrolet has already unveiled the most fuel-efficient Corvette in history, the 2014 Corvette Stingray with direct injection and cylinder deactivation.
But the automaker may have some more tricks up its sleeves to squeeze even more miles out of every tank of gas going through the Stingray.
Autoweek was among the group of publications that recently took part in the 2014 Corvette Stingray drive experience held at the Milford Proving Grounds. Their review of the Stingray was published last week and is very favorable to the Stingray. Now we have the video from Autoweek showing many of the on-track exercises they were able to put the Corvette Stingray through.
The last piece of performance information we’ve been waiting on for the new 2014 Corvette Stingray has been the EPA fuel economy numbers. GM is now confirming that the 2014 Corvette Stingray equipped with the 455 horsepower LT1 and a 7-speed manual transmission gets an EPA-estimated 17 miles per gallon in the city and 29 mpg highway.
That makes the Corvette Stingray the most efficient sports car on the market today. No other sports car offers more than 455 horsepower and greater than 29 mpg highway.
Chevrolet released the performance estimates this morning for the all new 2014 Corvette Stingray and we guarantee that these numbers will sure make a lot of folks happy! We’ve been told that new “base” Stingray would be right up there in C6 Z06 territory and it looks like that claim is mostly spot on! Equipped with the Z51 performance package, the new C7 Corvette has a 3.8 second 0-60 mph estimate, and in the quarter miles does 12.0 seconds at 119 mph!
Callaway Corvettes have a long history with Chevrolet’s sports car.
To commemorate that history that goes all the way back to 1987, Callaway’s Dealer Program Manager Chris Chessnoe gave key members of the Corvette engineering, product management, and production staff a copy of a new book by Reeves Callaway.
Last Friday at the National Corvette Museum’s Bash Event, Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter and Product Manager Harlan Charles delivered their 2014 Corvette Stingray seminar to a capacity crowd. With so much information coming out about the new Corvette, the seminar lasted nearly two full hours!
Like previous years, the seminar also gave us the highlights and some final numbers on the current model year (2013) before delving into the new Stingray content. And because pricing for the Stingray was announced just an hour before the event started, we get to hear the Corvette Team’s first official comments on the manufacturers suggested retail pricing of $51,995 for the 1LT Coupe and $56,995 for the 1LT Convertible.
The Corvette Museum’s Annual Bash was in full swing on Friday and the biggest crowds were always around the 2014 Corvette Stingray Coupe and Convertible on display in the conference room.
But that didn’t mean there weren’t any other new Stingrays in the vicinity. This is Vette City after all. Last week we attended the New York Auto Show and were able to see the new 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible. It made its American debut wearing Night Race Blue with the 3LT Brownstone interior. While We were very impressed by the new convertible model and its distinct “Corvette” profile, it was the interior that had us wagging our tongues. If you were impressed by the previous C7 interiors you’ve seen, the 3LT Brownstone redefines the standard of luxury available on the new Corvette.
It seems that where ever the 2014 Corvette Stingray goes, there’s an unveiling. Last weekend in the Corvette Corral tent at the 12 Hours of Sebring wasn’t any different.
With Corvette Chief Engineer beginning his discussion about the next generation car, Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles and Corvette Assembly Plant Manager Dave Tatman pulled the cover off the Cyber Gray Corvette Stingray Coupe to a huge round of applause (and a few tears) from the enthusiasts in the crowd.
