If you happen to buy a new Corvette in roughly two years, you can likely thank the previous customers of the seventh-generation Stingray for your improved paint job.

The overwhelming success of the new Corvette, introduced in 2014, no doubt heavily influenced General Motors’ announcement today that it will be investing $439 million at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, most of which will go to a new Corvette paint shop that will include “substantial technology upgrades,” according to GM.

We treat our Corvettes like babies.

Now this video produced by ExxonMobil takes a behind-the-scenes look at the Corvette “birthing” process, including the first bottle given to the new “infant” – full of Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil, not milk!

The video is particularly significant now because Chevrolet just produced the 600,000th Corvette filled with Mobil 1 motor oil, a feat that took 21 years to accomplish.

Chevrolet Corvette Powertrain: Performance Starting on the Plant Floor

Chevrolet Corvette Powertrain: Performance Starting on the Plant Floor

Editor’s Note: We are honored to share an article submitted to CorvetteBlogger.com from Eric Nordling, Product Engineer at the GM Tonawanda Engine Plant and Bob Widmer, Production Launch Operations Manager, GM’s Toledo Transmission plant. Eric and Bob shares with us some of the high-tech machinery that helps to build the Corvette Stingray’s LT1 V8 engine in Tonawanda, NY and the eight-speed automatic transmission manufactured in Toledo, OH.

Since the original Small Block V8 engine was introduced in 1955, the Chevrolet Corvette has been famous for uncompromising power under its hood. But while Corvette drivers can see and appreciate the technology and innovation under their hoods, what very few people get to see is the advanced infrastructure and devotion to quality at all costs that goes into building the Corvette’s powertrain. Through seven generations of America’s most iconic sports car, General Motors engineers and workers have continually refined the state of the art in the manufacturing and assembly plants that build and test the Corvette’s engine and transmission, constantly finding new ways to make the Corvette more powerful, reliable and efficient.

Mobil 1 Oil Rebates Available Now Through the End of May 2015

Since 1992, Mobil 1 motor oil has been the “factory-fill” brand of oil at the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green. And if the factory is recommending the use of Mobil 1 oil, then that’s what you should use, right?

So when we heard about this rebate offer on Mobil 1 oil and knowing that many Corvette owners like to service their own rides, we thought it would be worth sharing the news and hopefully you can save a few bucks during the process.

Winter Storm Forces Closure of the Corvette Assembly Plant and National Corvette Museum

Winter Storm Forces Closure of the Corvette Assembly Plant and National Corvette Museum

Anyone who had been hoping to see their Corvette Stingray or Z06 roll down the assembly line Tuesday will have to wait at least one more day.

That’s because of the havoc being created by winter storm Octavia that has already dumped more than 6 inches of snow from Missouri to Kentucky, forcing General Motors to shut down the second shift at the Corvette Assembly Plant on Monday night and both shifts on Tuesday. (Maintenance crews were told to report for their regular shifts, however.)
