Let’s just hope her homework wasn’t in the car!

An electrical problem sent this 1986 Corvette coupe up in flames last Thursday afternoon at Merrimack High School in Merrimack, New Hampshire.

The driver, a student at the school, reported hearing a bang under the hood and then saw smoke. She quickly got out of the car and called 911.

Merrimack Fire and Rescue teams were dispatched to the school around 1 p.m. and quickly extinguished the blaze, which from photos taken at the scene appears to have caused extensive damage to the middle section of the Corvette.

“Engine 1 started a rapid attack as the burning car was in close proximity to several other cars in the parking lot,” Fire Marshall John Manuele told a patch.com reporter. “The fire was quickly knocked down and the remains of the hood were removed to completely extinguish the fire.”

Firefighters believe the fire started because of an electrical problem.

Fortunately, no one was injured.
