Worldwide Auctions to Offer the Silver L88 Trifecta at Houston Classic

Last month we told you about the Silver Pearl 1967 L88 Corvette Sting Ray that will be offered for sale at Worldwide Auction’s Houston Classic this Saturday, April 23rd. What we didn’t know at the time was that the 1967 Corvette was actually one of three Silver/Black L88 Roadsters offered in the sale, with an example from each of the legendary L88s three year production.

The 1967, 1968 and 1969 Corvettes, known collectively as the Silver L88 Trifecta, have been consigned to Saturday’s sale by a California collector.

Our previous article about the 1967 L88 Roadster recapped recent C2 L88 auctions to help determine how the market will treat this very original Silver/Black Corvette.

Only 20 L88s were made in the inaugural year and this 1967 L88 Corvette is 1 of only 10 L88 Roadsters. The roadster has less than 25K original miles and its owner history features some well-known collectors. The Silver/Black roadster was awarded NCRS Top Flight and Bloomington Gold certificates and it appeared in the Bloomington Gold Special Collection in 1988.

The sale estimate for the 1967 L88 Corvette is $3,200,000 – $3,800,000.

The 1968 L88 Corvette was 1 of 80 L88s produced during the first year of the C3 Corvette. It’s documented with the owner history of the car as well as the window sticker, protect-o-plate and the NCRS Shipping Data Report confirms production and delivery to Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Corvette was reviewed in 2008 by Corvette expert Al Greening who certified the trim tag and engine pad as legitimate.

The sale estimate for the 1968 L88 Corvette is $650,000 – $750,000.

The 1969 L88 Corvette was the final piece of the Silver L88 Trifecta collection. Restored by the Naber Brothers, the silver roadster retains is complete factory-original black vinyl interior including the carpet. It’s 1 of an estimated 10 L88 Corvettes to have the 4.56:1 rear end but also came with convenience optings including an auxillary hard top, head rests, tilt-tele steering colum and Soft-Ray tinted glass. The 1969 Corvette is well documented with original fuel-tank sticker, NCRS Shipping Data Report as well as NCRS Top Flight and Bloomington Gold certificates.

The sale estimate for the 1969 L88 Corvette is $600,000 – $700,000.

It’s a rare event when the opportunity comes up to own a 1967 L88 Corvette and even rarer to be presented with three consecutive years of L88 roadsters at one auction. Will these rare Corvettes fall within their pricing estimates or could we see some new records set? Stay tuned as we plan on recapping the sale after the final gavel has fallen.
