When this Corvette left the Bowling Green factory back in 1988, it probably never imagined it would someday become what its owner calls a “one-of-a-kind street-legal Corvette-powered UTV.”
But that’s exactly what happened.
Now this unusual creation is looking for a new home, with an asking price of $9,500 on Craigslist in Watertown, New York.
And if you’ve ever complained that all Corvettes look alike, here’s one that should settle that argument.
Built on a 1988 Corvette chassis, the machine retains enough of its Corvette roots to make its ancestry obvious, but just about everything else has been transformed into something resembling a cross between a sports car, dune buggy and UTV.
The Electron Lime paint probably provides the first clue that subtlety wasn’t part of the plan.
Neither was leaving the engine alone.
According to the seller, the 350-cubic-inch V8 has been newly rebuilt and has zero miles since completion. The four-bolt-main block was bored .060 over and fitted with new pistons, while the crankshaft was checked and polished.
The engine also received resurfaced Dart “Iron Eagle” heads along with aftermarket valves, pushrods, springs and lifters. A BBK 98mm throttle body, Edelbrock intake and modified runners help it breathe, while a custom air scoop feeds air through a K&N filter.
MSD ignition and Hooker headers complete the package, with the seller adding a simple assessment of the exhaust note: “Sounds great.”
Power is sent through an automatic transmission.
But the mechanical upgrades are only part of what makes this thing so unusual.
The black-and-saddle interior is described as excellent, with seats and carpeting said to be like new. Moroso safety bars take the place of conventional doors, while a retractable tonneau cover provides some protection for the cockpit.
Then things get even more interesting.
There’s a power winch mounted up front and a trailer hitch out back — two accessories you’re not likely to find together on many Corvettes.
A Greenwood rear wing remains part of the package, along with a quick-fill gas cap, C5 Z06 wheels and tires and off-road lighting.
In other words, this Corvette has apparently spent its life checking boxes Chevrolet never put on an option sheet.
The seller says the vehicle is street legal and comes with receipts, manuals, history and other documentation covering the build.
He’s apparently not selling because he’s tired of it, either.
“I absolutely LOVE this car, and I really hate to let it go,” he writes in the Craigslist ad, explaining that he’s losing his storage space.
Whether you call it a Corvette, UTV, dune buggy or simply somebody’s wild idea brought to life, there’s little chance of pulling into a cruise-in and finding another one parked beside it.
For $9,500, you’re certainly getting a lot of conversation starter for the money.
And there’s something wonderfully strange about a Corvette equipped with a V8, Hooker headers, Z06 wheels, a winch and a trailer hitch.
The seller says it best: “If you’re looking for something nobody else has, this is it!”

Doesn’t have C5 Z06 wheels, they are base C5 wheels.
Thoughts:
-Love the paint. It irritates the purists, just like AYM
-Interior as OEM seems like a miss. Would be better with Wrangler-style goretex seat covers and vinyl, hose-it-out style flooring
-It isn’t lifted, and it doesn’t come with A/T tires
Other than that–it’s a solid build. If it came in C8 flavor w/ AWD–I’d be flying up to NY and picking it up in person.
