Jay Leno and Donald Osborne team up once again for a Sunday Drive in a 1967 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe, powered by a 427 V8 and painted in the iconic Goodwood Green with a White Stinger hood and a Saddle interior.
The 1967 Corvette is one of the most collected Corvettes in its 73-year history due to its clean C2 design and having a wide variety of engines available. This example from the Audrain Auto Museum in Newport, RI features the L71 427/435-hp big block with three carburetors working together in unison. The Tri-Power Corvettes are not only legendary for their power, but that its power was greater than advertised, but lowered on paper to appease the insurance industry.
As you watch this video, Jay and Donald talk back and forth about the car and what makes it so fun to drive. There are some comparisons made to the 427 Cobra, but the ’67 Corvette offered so much more in terms of providing the maximum horsepower while still offering creature comforts like power windows, heaters, and defrosters, along with power steering and power brakes.
As the discussion moved to the pricing of these classics back in the day with this example costing around $7,000 new, Jay brings up the new ZR1X “that pretty much does whatever Ferrari and McLaren can do for a tenth of the price is just unbelievable to me.”
I always enjoy watching Jay Leno on a drive. While Donald is talking about something or another, Jay is focused on the road, constantly giving it a bit of gas to hear the sound of the 427 under throttle, and then backing off so he can do it again.
During the ride, they discuss the old Route 66 TV show, and Donald makes a pitch for a new Route 66 Show. He says, “Donald and Jay driving across the country in a ’67 Corvette looking for odd jobs.” Leno replies, “Yeah. Yeah. Good luck getting all your clothes in a 67 Corvette.”

Fun vid for sure. Anyone else notice that Jay is a really bad driver? 😳🤣
That sweet ride was crossing lines and cutting corners and hugging the lines more often than not !
Keep it between the lines Jay!!!
Love ya buddy
I have a 67 427 / 435 with side pipes. The video is fine but whining about the side pipes reminds me how old those two guys are.
So very true! The sound of that engine is a beautiful thing. Great point.
