Somewhere south of Oklahoma City, where prairie meets timber and history meets horizon, an unassuming building houses a magic Corvette factory.

Walk inside Heartland Customs’ shop, and fantasy becomes reality. Classic Corvettes, including C1s with coved fenders, C2s with peaked fenders, and C3 Sharks with voluptuous flanks, sit suspended between past and present.

Fiberglass bodies that once carried carburetors and drum brakes now conceal modern chassis engineering, contemporary drivetrains, and suspension geometry designed for today’s roads. Yet nothing feels overdone, and nothing is erased.

Since 2007, owner Jeff Page and his merry band of 12 craftspeople have been making Corvette fantasies come true in Purcell, Oklahoma. In 2013, the shop transitioned to a standardized semi-custom manufacturing system that creates a baseline blueprint for every build. The result is dubbed SPECVETTE, built exclusively by Heartland Customs.

That shift reduced the financial uncertainty of the old time-and-materials billing system and helped the shop scale without compromising quality. The repeatability of the semi-custom build process is paramount here. The hardware is proven, dependable, and potent. The client then selects colors and materials to tailor each car as a one-off build.

The latest progeny from this process is Heartland’s recent project, a split-window 1963 Corvette you see before you. The C2 Corvette is one of those cars that doesn’t require much explanation. It’s instantly recognizable, highly collectible, and enshrined in the pantheon of sixties pop culture.

Page told CorvetteBlogger, “We started with a nice, rust-free donor car. There were a few fiberglass repairs that had to be removed and redone properly, and it had a factory-correct drivetrain, though not numbers-matching.

Originally commissioned by Dwayne, the goal was to create a modernized sports car that could perform at a high level without removing timeless Corvette DNA. With that mission accomplished, Dwayne wanted to show the car around the country, but alas, he’s no spring chicken. To solve the logistics of that reality, he sold the car to his younger friend, Jerry. Together, the two could take on the sometimes-arduous task of traveling the country and hitting car shows.

Let’s take a deeper look at our feature car here, a 1963 SPEC-V Coupe. Any good build starts with a stout foundation, and only the best will do here. Heartland’s Corvettes are based on the Art Morrison GT Sport chassis, engineered to deliver contemporary rigidity, suspension geometry, braking performance, and drivetrain integration.

These frames replace the willowy OEM underpinnings with fully engineered systems designed to handle modern horsepower while dramatically improving ride quality and handling precision. It is here, below the paint and chrome, that an old Corvette truly becomes something new. The car rides on Billet Specialties wheels, 18×7 in front and 18×10 in the rear, stuffed with six-piston Baer brakes and wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot tires.

What’s a Corvette without prodigious horsepower? Motivation comes from a supercharged Don Hardy-built 6.2-liter LT4 rated at 750 horsepower, backed by a Bowler-built six-speed TREMEC manual transmission. The engine choice places the car firmly in modern supercar performance territory, but the drive remains manageable thanks to an equally robust chassis, cooling, and braking upgrades engineered into the build.

The shop places significant emphasis on fit and finish. The hood, doors, and headlight assemblies are all gapped to modern standards. An extensive finishing process ensures the fiberglass is smoother than anything that ever left St. Louis 63 years ago. When every panel is laser-straight, the body is sprayed out in foot-deep PPG “Bluecherding Pearl” paint that gives the exoskeleton a next-level look.

Inside, the cabin features two-tone Moore & Giles Sycamore Chocolate and Onyx Black leather. The materials are of the highest quality, but the star of the show is the exemplary fit, stitching, and finish, all attributes that reflect Heartland’s refined process and partnership with Starline Interiors out of Papillion, Nebraska. Custom luggage is available, too.

All cabin amenities are updated: Dakota Digital RTX gauges, Vintage Air, an RFID push-button start system, a RetroSound stereo with Kicker speakers, subwoofer, and amplifier. Heated and cooled seats, a power hood, and LED lighting throughout, including the headlights, complete the package.

If all this piques your interest, here’s a breakdown of starting your own SPECVETTE build with Heartland Customs. Page told CorvetteBlogger, “Most builds begin with a consultation, often in person with me. Many clients travel to Oklahoma to meet with us, review options, and discuss donor car selection. The financial structure is clear: 50 percent down when the build begins, followed by milestone-based payments tied to progress benchmarks. Heartland uses a proprietary client app that tracks build stages, triggers payments, and provides progress photos, giving customers transparency throughout the process.”

National Corvette Museum Partnership

The Heartland Customs SPECVETTE is the only resto mod Corvette in the world built in partnership with the National Corvette Museum. Each car is authenticated and archived by the museum as well.

Page told us, “Delivery through the National Corvette Museum is included in the quoted build price and remains a popular option. We can also make home deliveries for private unveilings. All SPECVETTES receive a firewall badge acknowledging both Heartland and the Museum, and owners receive a commemorative brick in the NCM Walk of Fame. Delivery day includes a VIP tour of the museum and the Corvette Assembly Plant, and lunch in ‘The Stingray Café.’ I’m there personally for every delivery to show the car owner all of the features of their new SPECVETTE.

Heartland’s work has also been recognized on major stages. In 2018, a Heartland-built 1958 SPECVETTE earned General Motors Car of the Year at SEMA. The shop has also secured Best of Show honors at Corvettes at Carlisle, and Best of Show and the Mike Yager Award at Funfest in Effingham, Illinois. These accolades, along with countless Best of Show awards around the country, reinforce the company’s standing within the Corvette community.

Demand reflects that reputation. Heartland currently has a lengthy waiting list. The 1958 model remains the most requested platform, though mid-year cars like the split-window continue to attract strong interest. Builds typically start around $250,000, depending on specification, and do not include the donor car.

Heartland Customs delivers more than a modified Corvette. It’s a distilled mix of heritage and modern engineering, classic fiberglass lines anchored to contemporary chassis systems, serious horsepower, and meticulous craftsmanship. Awards, back orders, and very strong resale results underscore the formula, but the real measure is execution. These Corvettes look right, drive right, and feel right. And somewhere south of Oklahoma City, where prairie meets timber and history meets horizon, “that Corvette factory keeps the magic humming.”
