Corvettes for Sale: One-Owner 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible Offered on eBay

In this day and age, it’s unusual to find someone who buys a car with a seven-year note and actually pays it off.

How about a first-year Corvette Sting Ray convertible that’s been carefully nurtured by the same person who bought it new on Aug. 3, 1963.

Now, a dealer is selling the car for the daughter of that original owner, through an auction on eBay that runs through Monday afternoon. The highest of 27 bids has climbed to $40,100 but remains shy of the reserve.

After driving his Corvette for only 21,000 miles, the owner retired it from the road in 1978, taking care of it in a controlled storage unit ever since.

Getting it ready for the auction, the sellers have gone over the brakes thoroughly and replaced the booster and front and rear brake hoses – along with changing all other fluids, rebuilding the carburetor, tuned it up, installed a correct dual exhaust system, replaced all four tires with radials, and detailed and buffed the entire car.

Finished in Riverside Red with a white soft top, this car’s paint is described as being “overall in very good order,” with “straight and solid” bodywork, a “somewhat tidy” engine bay, and chrome bumpers that “fit tightly to the body.”

The original 327/300 horsepower L75 V8 engine remains under the hood, mated with a four-speed M20 manual transmission and a 3.36 Positraction rear end.

Included with the sale are the owner’s manual, Warranty Protection Plan, Radio Instruction Manual, interior instruction cards, window sticker, dealer order form and invoice, original title, original 1963 shop manual, and other key paperwork tracing the history of the car back to August 1963, along with receipts for all the recent maintenance.

We’re assuming the original owner has passed away, but it’s too bad that we couldn’t have interviewed him about the car and why he hung onto it so long. If anyone else has a long period of similar ownership and is willing to talk, we’d love to hear from you.

  1. This Corvette is just right – a small block convertible that you could drive everywhere, everyday in good weather with the top down and the wind in your hair.
At Barrett-Jackson in a few weeks, some collector dude would go up to $100,000 in a fast heartbeat, (Mr. R. Hendrick) for this completely all original beauty in red. Please somebody call the owner’s daughter and tell her to wait on this Ebay sale as this Corvette is very special.
Good luck with at least 75 to 100 thousand dollar sale.
