Until the selling dealer out of Pennsylvania bought it this year, this 1968 Corvette convertible had been the pride and joy of a single family.
Now this vintage first-year C3 Corvette is looking for a new home on Bring a Trailer, where the current bid has climbed to $20,000 four days before the no-reserve auction is slated to come to an end.
Originally finished in Polar White (code 972) over black vinyl, the car was repainted decades ago but remains in nice condition, with only a few scattered flaws.
The original owner didn’t check many boxes for options, as the base 327/300 horsepower L30 V8 engine is in place, mated with the base three-speed manual transmission. While some might long for a four-speed manual, one visitor to the BaT listing recalled what “a blast to drive” his 1970 Buick GS 455 was with an “amazing” three-speed manual.
The car doesn’t have modern necessities like power steering or air conditioning. Instead, you’ll find the basics like a black soft top, retractable headlights, 15-inch Rally wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, AM/FM radio, and a heater.
But the lack of extra doesn’t do anything to deter the beautiful lines of this Shark Corvette that has undergone recent maintenance, including cleaning out the fuel tank, adjusting the valves, and installing a new radiator, carburetor, thermostat, fuel system components, spark plugs, and ignition wires.

In a way this very ‘basic’ ’68 brings with its own cache by virtue of being, well ‘basic’.
