Few names stir the soul of American car enthusiasts like Corvette. And few years carry as much mystique as 1957—the year Chevrolet’s sports car gained fuel injection and cemented its place in performance history.

Now, one of those rare machines has surfaced: a 1957 Corvette fuel Injected convertible, offered as a restoration project on eBay.

Interest has been high, with 46 bids reaching a high of $30,400 – still below the reserve with the auction coming to a close on Sunday.

This Corvette is a true barn find, reportedly tucked away for years after its owner passed. It comes with both a hard top and soft top, the original matching numbers 283 fuel injected V8, and the period correct Wonderbar radio.

The matching motor was rebuilt three decades ago but never fired. A core 283 currently sits in the car. The transmission has been disassembled and may be missing parts, but the seller believes most of the essentials are present.

The car was taken apart years ago with restoration in mind, but the project was never completed. The good news: the seats have already been redone and look fresh, and a new carpet kit is included. Expect some missing small items—bolts, brackets, trim pieces—but overall, the seller says the car “seems to be all there.”

The 1957 Corvette was a landmark model. With Rochester fuel injection, the 283 V8 became the first American production engine to achieve one horsepower per cubic inch. Combined with sleek styling and options like the Wonderbar radio, it was the car that helped Corvette shed its “sports car experiment” label and become a true icon.

With its fuel-injected engine, this example is one of just about 1,000 such cars built, and its rarity grows even more with the four-speed manual transmission that made its way into only 664 Corvettes with all engines.
