What if a Texas BBQ joint won France’s top culinary award? That’s essentially what just happened in Germany, where the C8 Corvette Stingray claimed the 2025 Sport Auto Award for imported coupés under €150,000.

This isn’t some industry participation trophy. Sport Auto’s readers—the same Germans who memorize Nürburgring lap times like Bible verses—actually voted for the Corvette over every non-German performance car in its price range. In a country where automotive engineering is religion and the 911 is the holy grail, that’s like hearing “Amazing Grace” sung in a Stuttgart cathedral.

For decades, from the C4 ZR-1 through the front-engine C7 ZR1, Corvette tried earning a seat at the global table through brute force. The mid-engine C8 changed the recipe entirely. Now it’s not just competing—it’s winning popularity contests in the homeland of its harshest critics.

“Stimmungsbarometer,” the Germans call these reader polls—a sentiment gauge for the performance world. Right now, that gauge is pointing toward Bowling Green, Kentucky, and even Porsche can’t ignore it.

“We are extremely proud and honored that Sport Auto readers have once again voted the Corvette Stingray number 1,” says Lasse Grundstroem, Chief Commercial Officer of General Motors Europe. “This award confirms our passion for performance and design and shows how much the Corvette inspires its fans – year after year, our thanks go to everyone who voted for us.”
