Back in 2023, Ron Fellows took to his Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with the new 2023 Corvette Z06 and quickly rocketed to the top of the track’s production car lap leaderboard. The 670-hp track-focused Z06 took the top spot with a record lap time of 1:22.12.
He followed that up with a different kind of lap at CTMP (formerly known as Mossport) – one where the race track was covered in the snow just to show off the all-wheel drive capabilities of the Corvette E-Ray.
But now the Canadian racing legend is about to break the production lap record once again at CTMP, this time behind the wheel of the mighty C8 Corvette ZR1!
The video from Chevrolet Canada shows the Corvette engineering team coming out to support the effort, and even Michelin is involved as we see Dr. Jeff Anderson on the job once again, moving tires from the warmer to the car.
On the 7th attempt, the C8 ZR1 set its first record lap with a time of 1:20.16. However, the new King of the Hill was only getting started as it broke its own record two more times and finished with a lap record time of 1:18.22 – a 3.9 second improvement over the Z06.
The Corvette ZR1 has been making news at race tracks ever since it was first revealed. First by setting the production lap records at five tracks across the USA: Watkins Glen, Road America, Road Atlanta, VIR Grand, and VIR full. The big news of course was how it (and its sister car the ZR1X) became the fastest American cars to lap the Nürburgring. Most recently, the ZR1 set the track record for a Savage Geese video at the Autobahn Country Club.
This video is actually divided into two parts with the first half showing the behind the scenes and the victory celebration at the end, and then we are treated to the full lap of CTMP from the ZR1’s Performance Data Recorder.

Very cool video.
Good job Ron!
Was he in automatic or paddle shifting?
I think this shows Ron or one of the Corvette Racing drivers would have been a great choice to turn some laps on the ‘Ring. Times would have been significantly lower.
