[VIDEO] A Closer Look at the New TREMEC 6-Speed Manual Transmission from SEMA 2025

Boy, TREMEC sure lit a fire under the Corvette Nation with the announcement of a new 6-Speed Manual Transmission with the same packaging size and mounting points as their C8 Dual Clutch Transmission. The shiny new transmission is on display at the SEMA show in Las Vegas this week, and that’s where Alex Peitz of Peitz Performance Tunes stops by to take a closer look at it.

Alex has a custom twin-turbo E-Ray that he’s been working on, and it just so happens that’s the car is on display at the TREMEC booth. And while I would certainly like to know more about that custom AWD C8, it’s the transmission that you are here to see.

He first points out the TR-9080 DCT that has been going into the C8s since 2020. Despite its early reputation as being “troublesome,” Alex says it has been good for creating “a crapload” of power, and he calls it rock solid in terms of the gear set and its reliability in multiple builds.

“But what if we had a manual transmission C8,” he asks, and then shows the new transaxle from TREMEC.

“As you can see, it will bolt right in in place where a C8 transmission would go. The same mounting points for as a factory transmission. Also, you have axle mounting right here. So, the axles you bolt up to a factory C8 axles, and then you’ve got yourself a manual transmission in your C8.”

He does caution that you have to still add a shifter, clutch and all the linkage (which he calls the fun stuff), but says “It’s a fantastic opportunity to make some cool horsepower and have a manual transmission.”

Alex goes over some of the finer points of the new transmission, with the ability for 1000 horsepower, 800 lb-ft of torque, and it can handle up to 8600 RMP. “A lot of cool stuff you could do with this thing. And of course, us in the aftermarket, we’re going to take it and we’re going to push it to the limits. And I don’t know if we’ll find the limits, but if we do, we’re going to make it even bigger, faster, stronger yet.”

  1. Smart move as the introduction will confirm demand and build more market value. Porsche is successful after the reintroduction of their manual. Not your father’s Oldsmobile.

  2. @ RC

    Ok boomer.

This IS your father’s manual. Meanwhile, transmission technology has eclipsed the performance, economy and capability of traditional manuals. You can spend 20k on retrofitting an antiquated transmission technology in your hoopty. Fine by me.

  3. All of my previous Corvettes were manual and fun to drive. My C8 Z06 DCT is a great transmission, and I would not trade it for a manual.

  4. I love how everybody says their DCT shifts faster. So what? That’s not the point here. A manual transmission is engaging, it requires skill, it’s fun to drive. If you wanna go chase tenths in a DCT have at it. I want a manual because I ENJOY it. There’s a good reason the manual 2019 ZR1 is worth 100K more than an automatic and over 60% of the Blackwings sold are manual – they’re more fun to drive. It’s INSANE the C8 still doesn’t offer one.

  5. Alex,
You mentioned hydraulic shifting when playing with the shifter arms, what did you mean? From my understanding, GM has designed and patented a drive-by-wire manual transmission that used solenoids on the trans shifting arms so as to not need shifting linkage from the driver to the trans. Is there room in the center council to mount a manual shifter? Is there support (under the dash) next the brake pedal to mount a clutch pedal? Is there plans for a possible drive-by-wire clutch pedal also? I assume a drive-by-wire shifter and clutch pedal would be the easiest way to convert to a manual trans, or, possibly a hydraulic clutch pedal line?
