Corvettes for Sale: 1974 Corvette With L48 350 Offered on Bring a Trailer

My first dreams of owning a Corvette started to bloom about the time this 1974 Corvette T-top coupe first hit the road.

While subsequent generations have captured my attention in the decades since, these Stingrays have always had a soft spot in my heart. I loved the exciting “new” look of the rubber bumpers front and rear and couldn’t wait until I could buy one just like it. At my first job at a grocery store, I couldn’t wait for one particular customer who had a silver ’74 and volunteered to take his groceries to his car even though he was more than capable of handling the task himself!

This example being offered on Bring a Trailer harkens back to the original 1953 models with its color combination of Classic White over Dark Red vinyl and cloth interior.

The auction still has four days left to try and get the high bid past its current $6,000 level.

That may or may not be the case, however, because interest in these cars, which were battling the effects of government regulations that limited their performance, is not as great as earlier, more powerful C3 Corvettes.

The L48 V8 in this car produced only 190 horsepower but did deliver a respectable level of torque at 270 lb-ft. Some enthusiasts won’t be crazy about the Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission, either, though for a cruiser, that could be preferred by others who can’t physically shift gears anymore or prefer the convenience of an automatic.

Photos with the listing seem to show a car that could be enjoyed immediately without any restoration, as the paint looks to be in good shape and there are no glaring deficiencies in the interior. With 90,000 miles showing, the engine should still have life left.

Originally delivered to Gallucci Chevrolet in Medina, Ohio, the car had an original sticker price of $6,385, with the only options being power steering and brakes, AM/FM radio, and steel-belted radials. Now it rolls on 225/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires with 15-inch Rally wheels with chrome trim rings.

This car represents a good way to break into the Corvette hobby without breaking the bank, and we think the styling has held up well over the years. The new owner would likely draw appreciative looks since the younger generation isn’t used to seeing C3s like this every day.
