The Rock ‘n Roll world lost another icon this week with the passing of KISS guitarist Ace Frehley. Ace passed away at his home after sustaining a fall. He was 74 years old.
Back in 1976 when I was 8 years old, my mom got me a KISS 45 record with hit single “Rock N Roll All Night,” and that was followed up with the “Love Gun” cassette a year or two later. It’s sad to see these icons passing, and we will definitely be playing some KISS songs this weekend in tribute to one of my first favorite bands.
Did you know that Ace once owned a C3 Corvette?
He purchased a brand new 1978 Corvette Pace Car back in ’78 and owned it for two years before gifting it to his brother-in-law in 1980. It was said that the Ace loved the Indy Pace Car’s Black and Silver livery which be believed matched his “Spaceman” stage persona.
Ace was kicked out of KISS in 1982 for partying all night (and sleeping all day) though he would rejoin in 1996 for a reunion tour. When not with KISS, he formed his own band called Frehley’s Comet. His last album solo album was called “10,000 Volts” which was released just last year. Ace was inducted into the Hall of Fame with his KISS Bandmates in 2014. Guitar World magazine ranked him as the 14th Greatest Metal Guitarist of all Time.
We’ll miss you Ace! Keep Rocking!

KISS was my very first arena concert in July 1977 in Edmonton. The concert took place during Edmonton’s K-Days summer festival and I can tell you that the pyrotechnics during that concert were WAY more impressive than the festival’s nightly fireworks show that was going on as we left the Coliseum. I wasn’t convinced that I still had eyebrows!
RIP Ace, and thank you for both your taste in cars and your service to the rock community!
I am 93 years old and the E Ray is the best Corvette I have ever owned including my Z06 and the 2020 stingray which I have owned The best riding one of all time.
🙏
Fortunate to have passed away before there is no more “New York Groove”.
