It can be difficult to find a trustworthy mechanic, so a Florida Youtuber named Samcrac turned to an unlikely source when he was having trouble getting his “undrivable” C6 Corvette Z06 to run: ChatGPT.
Sam bought the Corvette with a salvage title for only $16,000 and set out to rebuild the engine with new parts. Still, it ran terribly – stalling, reeking of fuel, and requiring excessive throttle to move.
A faulty cam position sensor led to a deep dive into the engine, revealing more trouble like plastic shavings, a loose crank bolt, and damaged oil pump gears. He even found a hidden AirTag in the car, raising suspicions about its past.
Still, the Corvette just wasn’t running like it should, so Sam decided to turn to his helpful but untested online AI friend, ChatGPT, to help diagnose and tune the car using HP Tuners software.
Turns out ChatGPT quickly guided him through a reviewing of the fuel and airflow tables, adjusting idle and enrichment settings, and creating and flashing a revised tune file.
So how did it go? Sam reports the first AI-assisted tune dramatically improved drivability with smoother clutch engagement, less fuel smell, and better throttle response. Later revisions offered minor tweaks, but Sam questions whether they were even necessary or just engagement-driven.
As the world becomes more and more AI-oriented with each passing day, we wouldn’t be surprised to hear of more and more enthusiasts turning to their intelligent friend, ChatGPT, which provided surprisingly effective guidance for tuning a modified Corvette, making Sam’s barely drivable bucking mess into a car he felt confident driving. He plans to hand off his AI-generated baseline to a professional tuner for final refinement.

As an engineer, let me caution you about AI very simply:
1. It is only as good as the information given it
2. Its output may be 100% wrong
3. BS in = BS out
4. Check, Verify, Recheck, Certify
This said, AI is a great tool for helping create scripts in Python & MATLAB!
