This Silverstone Silver big-block 1968 Corvette convertible comes with lots of correct parts, including the numbers-matching drivetrain that includes an L68 Tri-Power 427/400HP V8 engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission.
This first-year C3 Corvette is being offered on Craigslist out of Katy, Texas, west of Houston, with an asking price of $67,900.
The seller says the silver paint is “nice and code correct,” though he admits “minor cracks around the hood and chips from driving” are present. The body offers “great” panel fit and lines, according to the listing, and the chrome and stainless trim are likewise rated “nice.” The undercarriage is described as “very solid and intact.” A black vinyl hardtop adds a nice complement to the silver paint (though there aren’t any photos of it), and a black soft top also seems to be in good shape, though in the photos, it looks like to us the fitting could be adjusted a little better.
Under the big-block hood, you’ll find what are described as “correct” valve covers, air cleaner, ignition shielding, and smog pump.
The black vinyl interior is in excellent condition, with a center console with the correct chrome shifter, “crisp and clear” tachometer and gauges, AM/FM radio, and simulated wood steering wheel. Inside period-correct redline tires are Rally wheels.
The seller broke down some of the casting numbers for those interested:
- Numbers matching L-68 427 Tripower engine with 400 horsepower casting 3935439 with IM suffix code built April 15 1968
- Holley carbs 3659 3659 4055
- GM intake 3937795
- Chrome ignition shielding, valve covers and air cleaner
- Factory smog pump
- Numbers matching Muncie 4 speed 185419581
- 4 wheel disc brakes
- Correct Posi rear with 3.08 gear
Is it just us or are prices rising quickly on these big-block chrome bumpers?

Real collector corvettes
Pricey but pretty.
The 68 you have shown (tri-power) appears to be an automatic transmission, not a 4 speed manual.
