This rare C6 Corvette coupe has a mouthful of a name: the 2007 Corvette Z06 Ron Fellows ALMS GT1 Championship Edition.

Most enthusiasts just shorten it to the Ron Fellows Z06.

Chevy made only 399 of these limited-production Corvettes, which became the first signature special edition as it paid tribute to legendary Corvette Racing driver Ron Fellows.

#327 is now being offered on Craigslist by a seller located east of Phoenix in Mesa, Arizona, with an asking price of $48,500. That’s quite a bargain compared to the original MSRP of $77,500.

Back in the summer of 2006, Corvette marketing manager Gary Claudio called Fellows and surprised him with the news that Chevrolet was going to honor him with a special edition Corvette the following year.

“I just got goosebumps,” Fellows says in Keith Cornett’s Corvette Special Editions book. “He wouldn’t share any more and said the rest was going to be a surprise. It was at the Chicago Auto Show where they did the official unveiling, and it won some kind of prize, which was cool. Later, in June of that year, I was out to dinner and GM chairman Bob Lutz came up and said to me, ‘Congratulations on that car. I am happy to tell you that we sold out, and they sold quick!'”

Fellows dropped by the Bowling Green factory in January 2007 and signed all 399 console lids in one day. This one also has special floor and trunk mats with his signature embroidered on them, along with a Ron Fellows Z06 leather jacket that matches the car.

With just 19,000 miles, this example remains in “near perfect” condition and includes two sets of rims, according to the current owner.

Fellows’ career included 27 wins, three ALMS championships, and two wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, along with an unprecedented four consecutive Most Popular Driver awards from ALMS fans. His last season with Corvette Racing was in 2008, and he’s known for his work with the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club, which serves as Chevy’s official Corvette owners school.

Appropriately enough, the Ron Fellows Z06’s naturally aspirated 505-horsepower 7.0-liter LS7 engine was a direct result of lessons learned from the racing Corvettes of the C5-R era.

The Ron Fellows Z06 was offered exclusively in Arctic White with Monterey Red hash marks with Machine Silver borders, a color scheme that pays homage to his Canadian heritage. The hash marks also contain the outline of the Canadian Maple Leaf and Fellows’ name and the years of Corvette’s six consecutive ALMS GT1 championships.

The cockpit featured red leather trimming the sides and bolsters of black leather seats embroidered with Z06 logos on the headrests. The red theme continued from the lower door panels to the bottom of the dash and instrument panel. The armrests were covered in red leather as well, with an embossed Corvette crossed-flags logo. Another distinguishing feature was a tech-patterned interior trim panel surrounding the center console.

Production of the Ron Fellows Corvettes began with the first three cars completed on January 23, 2007. The final 396 units were built in March and April 2007, with 300 remaining in the United States, 33 in Canada, and 66 in other export markets. VIN 001 reportedly still belongs to Fellows himself.
