When you keep a car for nearly half a century, it’s not surprising that you might have to do more than one restoration.
That’s the case with this 1959 Corvette convertible that has been owned by the same family since 1976, but now, 49 years later, they are finally parting with this long-time “fiberglass relative” through an auction on eBay.
The sale comes to a close at 3 p.m. Sunday, and the high bid has already soared to $65,000 – getting close to the “Buy It Now” price of $75,000.
The car first underwent a frame-off restoration back in 1996, when a 327 engine updated with dual Edelbrock four-barrel carburetors and mated to a four-speed manual transmission were installed.
More recently, another update was done on the car, with a total disassembly and new Tuxedo Black paint job applied and a new clutch, full exhaust system, four Firestone bias ply tires, and a set of NOS dogdish hubcaps on original Kelsey-Hayes wheels installed.
The new black paint complements the older restored white vinyl interior that still looks to be in good condition.
The seller describes the car as “excellent driving” and says it gets “lots of attention.” We wonder what finally led the family to decide to part with it after so long.
