All Corvettes may be red, at least according to the popular 1997 book that details the development of the C5.
But in this case, the red color scheme on the No. 13 Corvette Z06 GT3.R is much more than just a splashy paint job.
Along with the maple leafs adorning the car, the new livery is designed to honor the AWA team’s heritage as it becomes one of the first Canadian teams in recent years to compete at next month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.
AWA earned the trip to Le Mans after Bronze-rated driver Orey Fidani was the winner of the Bob Akin Award in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship a year ago.
“This is more than just a race for us; it’s an opportunity to represent our country in front of the world,” said Fidani, who will share the No. 13 Corvette with Lars Kern and Matt Bell.
He tells Sportscar365 that wearing Canada’s colors at Le Mans will be “an incredible honor.”
“We’ll be pushing hard to make our fellow Canadians proud,” Fidani said. “There will be no feeling quite like seeing that maple leaf drive down the Mulsanne Straight at over 300 km/h.”
In preparation for the race, AWA tested the car’s chassis at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park before “air-mailing” it to the United Kingdom, where the required FIA World Endurance Championship-specific components are being installed.
At Le Mans, AWA will also be supported by WEC regulars TF Sport, which will be competing with two of its own Corvettes in the LMGT3 class and another in the LMP2 Pro-Am division.
