Every car owner is different.
Just take a look at this 1985 Corvette coupe.
We don’t know the whole story, but the original owner decided to part with his new sports car just a few months and 1,000 miles in.
The second owner, on the other hand, has owned the car for the past 40 years!
Same car, different ownership experience.
Now, a third owner is being sought on eBay Motors, where the car is being offered for the reasonable price of $13,200 or best offer.
Not bad for a C4 with less than 20,000 miles on the odometer and one that’s said to have been lovingly maintained over the past four decades, “which is evident upon inspection.”
Compared to today’s standards, C4s like this aren’t very powerful, but considering the era it belonged to, the 1984-96 run of the fourth generation more than held its own with the competition when it came to power and handling.
This example has a lot of pluses going for it, even beyond the small ownership history and ultra-low odometer reading.
It’s attractive looking with its two-tone silver paint job that also has the benefit of being a super rare exterior treatment with less than 5% of the ’85s so painted.
When the C4 was introduced, it featured the L83 engine carried over from the ’82. Chevy quickly replaced it with a more powerful Tuned-Port Injection L98 that delivered 25 more horses, moving up to 230 from 205.
This car still “runs and drives beautifully,” according to the listing.
But that’s not the only accolades it’s worthy of as the paint, interior, glass and trim are all in excellent condition. The weakest points are some minor dry cracking on the passenger window seal and the decade-old tires that would need to be replaced for safety reasons due to their age.
The new owner will also get to enjoy amenities like power driver seat, power door locks, removable roof panel, air conditioning (that still blows cold), cruise control, heavy duty cooling, four-speed automatic transmission, and rear window and side mirror defoggers.
Included with the car are a complete set of service records, manuals, and a clean Carfax.
The seller concludes his presentation with this assessment: “Overall, this is undoubtedly one of the finest C4 Corvettes we’ve had the privilege to own and offer.”
We would agree and based on our ownership experiences with an ’86, ’88, ’89, and ’96, we can attest to the “fun-factor-per-buck” of these cars.

I bought basically the same car new in 1985, I thought it was a great car. Mine was two tone bronze with dark bronze leather. I had the manual transmission and the optional Bose stereo which was exceptional, and don’t forget the torque rating was 330 lb ft, which was very good. MSRP was $28K

People forget that 230bhp by 1980s SAE standards is roughly the same as 330 gross hp by pre-1972 standards. Less than what we’re accustomed to 40 years later, sure. But definitely not shabby for a small block, even compared to the gilded age of muscle cars.
I think that is a great deal I have a C5 and I believe it is a step above c4 but value and price I think is great for what is it being sold for
I’m on my 2nd C4, a 85, the 1st was a 86 with a 4+3 silver with gray interior . Loved it but it had to when I got divorced. Purchased the 85 in 2019 with 32,000 miles for $5500.00 everything worked a/c ice cold car just needed a repaint and weatherstripping replaced. Only issues were water pump replaced. People should stop the hate with C4’s as they were products of their time. Just as many issues with gen 5&6 and they were more expensive. By the way my 85 has 79,560 miles and I drive it all year.
